Question for those toppy masters out there. I recently bought a pair of black calf lobbs, with leather soles and metal toe protectors.

To preserve the life of the soles, I may have applied a thin toppy. In the case of a leather sole with a metal toe plate, is the toppy an option? Would it bond to the metal?

It would also probably look a little strange from a frontal view, with the silver metal toe plate inbetween the toppy and the shoe. Would shoe dressing cover this?

I may just leave as is, and get resoled by e.g. BNelson when the time comes...but as I live in a region with next to zero cobblers, I have to think about how to protect them.

Just rotate your shoes and wear them as they are meant to be.Personally I do like the leather sole feel and would not put anything over to dampen the spirit....

Bulling a shoe: I attempted bulling the toes of my shoes using Saphir reno and wax. When I applied the wax for bulling through a few coats it didn’t appear to take. I resulted to my kiwi and it immediately began to take. Is this what everyone else has experienced?

Also at the end of bulling I was going to add a couple of coats of Saphir neutral to add some depth to the bulling but when I added the neutral wax I had issues. I was patient when applying? Shoes were my brown Allen Edmonds Weybridge’s

I'll just assume you were in some sort of psychotic state (whether natural or chemically induced) and leave it at that.

I believe there are out patient treatment programs for such things but could be mistaken.

Welt: strip, as of leather, set in between the outsole of a shoe and the edges of its insole and upper, through which these parts are joined by stitching or stapling.

If you've got both kiwi and saphir... Don't bother with the kiwi. You'll just end up buffing the kiwi instead of buffing the shoe - hence the ease at which a mirror shine is achievable even with just one coat. The slightest nudge against any remotely hard surface will leave you with very noticeable blemishes on your shoes, which imo are distractingly ugly.

Stick with the saphir and apply with much patience. Enjoy the slow but rewarding buffing process.

Guys I am still very much a novice but I'm getting there. I got my calf C&J's wet and dirty and ended up with some serious spots. I decided to go from scratch and using all the recommended Saphir products. I am now ready to add the cream polish to which I wonder if you added the darker for the toes and heel first or the lighter for the remainder of the shoe first?

Also I seem to be getting these darkening spots, any ideas what to do about them before I add cream polish?



Brushes I generally use a stiffer one for cleaning & dusting, then softer ones for buffing, shining? Does this matter, I was thinking the harder bristles seems to darken the leather even more?

I've gone though the two days of reno treatment and want to know if it would be acceptable to wear them after polish/shine or wait again?

I apologize if this has already been covered, I did read the entire thread and searched extensively, to no avail.
