I think this is from the shoe laces. Anyway to avoid this?

Perhaps using straight bar lacing could help:  https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/straightbarlacing.htm

Is this common with other people's experiences? I do straight bar lacing, so it only appears under the leather where the laces come under the eyelets. But if I was doing criss cross lacing the ugly dark marks would appear front and center in the middle of the tongue.

Any ideas to not have these eyelet burrs cut into my tongue?

Is my tongue getting cut up from the burrs an inevitably of life that you all have accepted?

Probably the best thing you can do with shoes is to wear them. :satisfied:

this looks mostly like dye/wax coming of the laces !! you can replace the  laces with  acrylic!it wouldn't be something that would bother me!!its on a hidden place

Might the red stains be from the brass eyelets?

If i am not mistaken brass eyelets produce greenish stains due to the oxidization of brass !

What are your thoughts on getting plastic shoe guards(sole taps) put on these to make the sole last a little longer? I'm not sure they can be resole.

The sole are the foamy kind (it reminds me of crepe), not sure what they're officially called.

I generally put sole taps on my other leather sole dress shoes, but since these are different and are ore casual, I was wondering what you guys think? What would you do?

Thanks SF!

Sole guards cannot applied.
They can be re-soled with this sole:

It's also available in black and easy for your local repair shop to get if they don't stock them.

I have to say that those look like pretty substantial soles! Do you really need any further protection?  They look set to last you a long time!  Yours, Munky.
