If DW was not here I would have never known of waxed calf; if he was not around, I might have taken even more bullying when I said I used bones and burnishing techniques on leathers.

You rock, DW, and the award is certainly little to the contribution you gave.

I just cannot wait for two pieces of footwear art coming from our old warrior :fonz:

Your story about a fellow bootmaker, DW, reminds me of a meeting I had with someone, quite a few years ago. I had published quite a few books and many papers. This character asked my name and when I told him, he said: "I know you!  You are the one that writes all that crap"!

Again, many congratulations.

Now that's a mean dude whom I'd be sure to start an argument in the pub with LOL! Even when someone's work looks like a piece of shit, doesn't mean one can make fun of it, or being mean to it.

pB  Yes, of course. 'Professor Munky, I presume?'   :embar:

Travers, thanks for your words of comfort: "Even when someone's work looks like a piece of shit, doesn't mean one can make fun of it..."

Well, now that I have your attention, let me tell you another story that relates to shoemaking and incidentally (but centrally) to my posts here and on the CC:

At the 1934 National Rodeo Finals in Madison Square Gardens, one of my mentors had just won the Bull Riding event. As he was coming out of the arena a newspaperman ran up to him and said...

"Frank, congratulations on a terrific ride. Tough competition--you dern sure beat out a lot of good cowboys today!"

Frank pushed his hat back on his head and said "Son, I hate to be rude but you've got it all wrong. It's the bull we compete against, not other riders."
