I don't think the OP was implying that c&j are discontinuing Ashdown and all bluchers completely, just the shell model. Most c&j shell shoes have or had calf leather equivalents.
TBH I think the rtw shell range needs a bit of a shake up, the shoe list has been pretty static for a while now, no brogue blucher at all and any additions to the list have been c&j shop only exclusives.
Have Ashdown in shell but would love to see a rtw Chepstow chukka in shell, mto c&j are so expensive they may aswell not bother offering the service.
It's hard to believe that such a standard offering would be discontinued, the plain toe blucher, or derby as it were, being a staple of most rtw shoe manufactures for over a century.
