Quoted from the VictorSF mini-blog thread:

Those are some manly shoes.

As soon as I'm out of the MoL's No Purchase Club, I'm going to get me some rubber soled shoes like that. Regular rubber soled shoes like to pretend to be leather, hiding away hoping nobody will notice. Those soles are scream, "**** you, I'm rubber." I'll have to ask in the AE thread about recommendations (though any given here would be appreciated ^_^).

In fact, Victor, details on the shoes?

These shoes from C & J, the model "Veld"

I think that you should not be shy on the soles of shoes Dainite or Commando. This shoe is very appropriate in the wet and snowy weather, and has a brutal style
nod[1].gif

I am curious about these C & J shoes, but cannot find them anywhere, at least not under that name. Excepting Snowdon, all rubber-soled C & J's appear to have dainite soles.

Almost certainly a discontinued style although Pediwear appear to have one pair in size 12 stock

Oh, thanks! I see -- it's "Veldt", as in "Veldtschoen", not "Veld". That sort of explains why they were difficult to find. Too bad they're discontinued (12 is far too large for me). I need some shoes for next winter that look decent but are able to handle icy pavements better than the dainty dainites. I am considering Cheaney Gairngorm II (also made under a couple of other brand names), which are somewhat similar to these but in grain leather.

I ordered the supposed pair of weymouths from Barneyswarehouse that was one sale for $369, it was the westbournes instead. I'll be returning them. Its got the sticker and barcode saying weymouths on the sole, therefor it might be proccessed as the weymouth again, just letting you guys know.

I called the c&j store to inquire about the Granada loafer (348 last). I was debating between 2 sizes, but leaning toward the smaller size. She said they had both sizes in stock. I called back about 15 minutes later and they had already sold the size I was leaning toward :fu: I went ahead and ordered the larger size, hoping I don't have to return them and wait on the smaller one because the style is MTO. She said it could be 3 weeks for them to receive a pair, if there's another available. If not, it could be 3-4 months for c&j to make one. These are sharp, and I like grained leather. It camouflages wrinkles and creases a bit.

Unless you already have a pair of Westbournes, I would keep them.

Funny ... I actually returned these same C&J Weymouths when I bought both 8.5 and 9 to try out. Received the Westbournes in 9 instead of the Weymouth. Would have kept them but alas I needed the 8.5.
