Gdot, thanks for that! I've buffed them and put on another coat of Reno before I left for work this morning because of your post :) I'll let you know how they go for me.

:) I've been wanting these for awhile now and I hear you on the Lowndes! It was going to be the brown calf for me but yesterday, I tried on the expresso suede and they look really attractive so much so that I'm torn! My attraction towards calf is because of the shine you can get on them.

 

Maybe both is the answer but that's going to be a question for next year ;)

I got the idea from here and from Lear's advice on getting a mirror shine and I figure in the worst case, it's not going to hurt the shoe.

 

The president of John Lobb recommends conditioning of RTW shoes before wearing as it is likely they've been sitting on the shelf for a long time without conditioning. I don't know where I picked up the practice of doing it twice. But I have noticed that even lots of the second application gets absorbed so that's what I do. Perhaps I picked this up from Lear as mentioned above?

Marinating meat works doesn't it?

I do that too if I am breaking in a new pair of calf shoes.

I'd be interested to know this also, but I am guessing it will probably be the chestnut as the one on the page looks more like a reddish brown.

The fins are a reddish brown.
