at one point they were definitely made on dainite. could you post a pic of you leather sole'd boots? from the boot pictures online, its easy to spot the dainite outsole. def not leather soled boots in the pic

Yes, here are some pics. First four in natural light; last one with flash. I was set to get the Dainite, but now that I have them, I think I'm OK with the leather sole. I can always resole later if needed.

I don't know, sorry! I know what you mean about the shape; they remind me of the last that Loake use for their Litchfield brogue boot.

BB boots look great man. i think i just prefer dainite over leather sole on all my boots (id probably wear my Cottesmore more if they were on dainite instead of double leather). actually, if i could, id resole all my boots to carmina equivalent of dainite (thinner profile) and my dress shoes with Alden oiled flex single leather

Thanks. I agree with your idea about boots. But I find Dainite too hard and uncomfortable when walking on normal dry surfaces. I also figure I might be able to get away with these in slightly dressier environments. But I'll have to look into the Carmina or other equivalents.

BTW, these are marked as the 240 last. They look and feel almost exactly the same as my Lindricks, which are supposedly on the 325 - the soles line up almost exactly - although the Lindricks are not marked. Is there much difference in these lasts?

240 is slightly narrower than the 325. 240 looks good with a captoe style whereas 325 is great for wingtips

Thanks Z! I wonder how many lasts C&J uses in total. I know 337, 358/348, 325, 341 are commonly used (excluding loafers lasts) then there are all these random other ones... so confusing. Reminds me of AE's various lasts

For some reason I have an easier time remembering numbered lasts as opposed to the multitude of seemingly randomly named Carmina lasts.

I bought and returned the BB boots because they came with the double leather instead of Dainite soles. I had my SA call around to inquire and all of the remaining stock in my size was double leather. What a disappointment.

 

Then again, at the end of the day, I don't think I'm much of a full on boot man. I much prefer a chukka.

I am truly enjoying the brecons I just bought. I think the 341 last is pretty good for me. I love boots. My problem is there is only one other boot with 341 last in CJ line, the Chelsea which I will get in spring. After that i can't see myself going to a narrower Tetburys or a rounder Alternative. Would the group know of any comparable brands with similar last to 341s? Many thanks.

I think that was a typo; according to an old C&J catalogue, the Hastings was made on the 238 last. I have a pair of shoes and a pair of boots on this last:



- it looks quite nice, but it's a bit narrow.

C&J have been gradually phasing out their older lasts. My problem is that they seem to be phasing out the 337 last as well. frown.gif

Would be cool if they're phasing out the 337 to introduce the Japanese-exclusive(?) 367 to more markets...
