I'm aware this isnt the upper-shoes thread but what the hell.

Since the Tetbury is out of stock in my size I'm looking at the Millbank. On the C&J site, apparently these are handgrade, but the upper-shoes site says they are mainline (in the details).

They have a dainite sole. Can anyone comment?

I've made some purchases from them. There are some makeups that are special (for France in general). Really the better way to confirm is to ask them, although there're few typos on the site such as last's number...

I've been mucking around on their site for a while. The VAT is removed once you set up an account. You can check the price difference on your laptop vs mobile.

I was signed in to my account and shipping was to the U.S. and I made it to the payment page where I enter my credit card information. Still included VAT. Must have been a glitch.

Hi Cuttingboard.

I spent most of the morning with help from Ian L getting around the upper-shoes website.

Eventually I discovered there were two sets of black Millbanks. One bench grade with dainite sole. The other hand grade with leather sole. Same price. Go figure.

At one stage I was torn because I thought I wanted a brown pair. But the handgrade blacks were too difficult to resist.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you discover too.

Good luck with that. All the popular styles are excluded from the sale. You can find some creepy seasonal styles no one wanted to purchase.

Well, they do carry some factory seconds in their stores during sale period

In the London store Sale period the seconds you are referring to are sold only at 30% off the regular firsts store price. During the whole year those rejects in Northampton Factory shop are sold more than 50% off the regular price.

For example, you can find the Coniston rejected boots for 200 GBP in Northampton FS now, while even they do appear in London store as seconds they will cost 295 GBP. That's how it was last Summer when I phoned their London store during the sale.

I have been looking at a pair of C&J Handgrade oxfords and tried some on the other day. I was measured as UK 8.5 by the guy in the store and tried on shoes in 8.5 and size 8. The size 8.5 fitted well on my larger foot and the 8 was snug for my smaller foot but cramped for my larger foot. I was inclined towards the 8.5 but the guy in the store said that the leather in the smaller pair would stretch over time.
I am now confused about what I should be looking for when trying on the shoes, does the heel grip more as the sole becomes more flexible? Do the socks I wear make much difference? How do I tell if a closed laced oxford is either too large or small? If the shoe is
cramped and I feel like it will hurt to wear initially, are my instincts correct and the size is too small?
I already have a pair of shoes (monk straps) in the 348 last in 8.5 which fit great and I am 8.5 in Loake 1880 and 9F in Church's if this
helps you guys.

What last are the handgrades on? Fwiw I have 348 monks that fit well in 8.5, but 358 oxfords in the same size are a bit loose. I didn't realize it when I bought them because i didn't know better, but I certainly would have bought 8's if I could do over. I have a pair of 337's in 8 and they're anbut tight like you mention. I haven't worn them a ton yet but in the 8-9 times I have the upper definitely conforms a bit. For this reason I'd think of going for the smaller rather than the larger size if the smaller isn't hurting, but is just a bit tight.

@andermt

Do you have any more pics of the "Budapester" wingtip? That one looks really nice

Did you by chance get it at the C&J factory store? I think I once saw that Budapester model mentioned when someone was showing pictures of the factory. Might have been @Cleav

I'm considering organizing an MTO for that model at some point. Do you know the last? Any more pics

An even worse picture of all my decent shoes

Front two pairs are Churches Stratford and Edward Green Westminster, two rows of Crockett & Jones and two rows of Cheaney.
