Actually the laces were changed when they were resoled (3rd party). They are too thick for my liking and I will revert back to the original thin, waxed ones shortly.

hi guys, seeing as this is sale time: anyone know where i might be able to find a pair of Hallams on sale? or just usual suspects for a C&J sale generally?

this is my first foray into #menswear (i'm growing up!) and there's some great info in this thread, so thanks.

Barneys will probably have markdowns soon; keep an eye out for it.

Barney's sale starts the 28th.
They're doing pre-sale now.

No idea what's going on sale.
I got Hallams and Tetburys last November sale for about $340-350 per pair.

These may include the pair that feel the most special to you or perhaps your dependable "go to" pair that you know will never let you down regardless of the conditions outside.

I would be interested to see what you come up with!

Mate, not been ignoring you, just deliberating......

It's like asking who your favourite child is, impossible of course.

currently enjoying these...

I've been wearing my black Lowndes a lot over the past two weeks.  They were my first pair of C&J some 3-4 years ago and while the fit isn't great and I've since purchased higher-end stuff (CJ HG, G&G, Vass, etc.) I'm always happy with these every time I put them on.  The Lowndes would definitely be on my short list for any selection of top C&J.

Couple of Q's for the folks here:

1) I bought the Pembroke in tan scotch grain from the NY store a few weeks ago. I really like them and will probably keep, but I am seeing post-sale the same shoe from SkyValet for over $100 less. I believe the C&J NY store have a 14 day return period, which I've missed, and a 6 month store credit/exchange policy. It's on me to find the store/price I want but I am surprised/irritated at the price difference. Is the NY store known to be more expensive overall than SV, Ben Silver, other online options? Good to know for future reference. I paid $710 shipped for them.

2) How does the 325 last compared to the 335? I've ready the 335 is slightly wider, is that accurate amongst those who have tried them? The 325 fits me almost perfect, slightly more room in the toe box ala Barrie last would be good.

3) For those who have seen both in person, how does the 'Burnished Mahogany Calf' Cardiff 4 compare visually to the Tan Country Grain of the Pembroke? Obviously one is smooth calf and one is grain, I am trying to see if the Cardiff is about the same shade of brown...

Thanks

There are some nice guys at mens shoes department. I've managed returning shoes kept for more than 14 days.

^^I have no specific experience with the C&J NY store, but I'm surprised at this difference.  There's been a lot of discussion recently about how C&J is effective at enforcing consistent pricing amongst retailers and Skyvalet's other prices aren't particularly good (nothing against them, fine shop, just talking about the pricing).

True about Skyvalet's price.  But I noticed that every season most of the shoes on sale at Barneys are models made "exclusive for Barneys" or models that have been sitting there for 2-3 years, so I guess this is how they can get away with CJ's rule...

I've bought a couple pairs of C&Js from Sky Valet and wondered about how their prices compare to other stores. Looks as though Ben Silver is way overpriced. Is there another store that you guys recommend?
