Thanks Fred.

I'll do a side by side comparison of the Forest to the 348 as well, as you did. What is the length difference between yours and what is your shoe size?

I can see that part of the look of the 348 is also going to be determined by what's on the toe box, for example punched medallion or cap.

So maybe my question is directed to Highbury folks and how they wear them (or Tetbury folks too, as the same issues arise).

I have shoes on the forest and the 348, both 9.5 UK, and in my opinion, the 348s are battleships in comparison.

@MGD83

Thanks you mean much longer? Different from Fred's?

Here's a forest versus my highbury (seems to be the same as Fred's)...the 348s are from Barneys but, I am now convinced, at least in this case is not abnormally elongated:

I like Fred's 348s and he has nicer shoe trees too. Also, no creasing! How is that possible?

Still not sure the 348 PTBs are for me...

Hey Guys, just a random question related to shoe price inflation.  Obviously prices have gone up and demand relative to supply for top shoemakers' shoes has skyrocketed.

What would you estimate say a $700 shoe today would have cost in 2008?  $350, $400, $500, etc?

There may be perfect examples of the same shoe with a MSRP that can be tracked, I'm just not informed enough of any.  Or in general the price points for certain shoemakers can easily be tracked and to see how they've increased over the years.

I figured this would be a good place to start.  I'm curious for several reasons.  Thanks.

Mine are UK9. The Forest is about 11 3/4" and the 348 is about 12 1/4" so that's a pretty big difference. The lasts are shaped so different though and the way my toes fit at the end is also pretty different.

The Carminas just arrived from Skoak last week and have only been worn once so far. They were actually a little bit tight so I initially debated returning them, but decided to keep them and see if they would loosen up a bit with wear. The Saphir shoe trees (from NMWA) are sized very full so I put some conditioner on the shoes to soften the leather, crammed the size 43 Saphir trees in, and left them in overnight, which stretched them just enough to make them comfortable.

Tweedy I meant that they feel much longer overall. I'm almost certain I could have went down a half size in the 348.  Width seems to be similar though. I'll take a couple of measurements of my shoes tonight.

So funny (given issues about US to UK conversion which I think you saw with the Barney's Tetburys), but my UK8 Forest I measure about 11.75 inches and UK8 348s about 12.25!!! Anyway, the difference is what I care about and that's about the same on your end and mine. I agree with Fred that I might be in with a half size smaller...

Posted pics of these yet in the Skoak thread? Looking forward to them (did you get hit with duties?).

Thanks again Fred and MGD83

No duties as of yet.

C&J thread denizens

No Highbury or Tetbury owners in this thread? Curious of pics in the wild.

If you know the 348 last and are interested in an "espresso" 9US Highbury (Barney's term, I think), please PM me.

Does any of you folks from the UK plan on visiting the Northampton soon? I just spoke to their Factory Shop and they got some Conistons there for 200 GBP :bounce2:

Trouble is, they won't dispatch the shoes outside the FS like John Lobb/Edward Green normally do. One has to personally visit the Shop and purchase them ..

So, if someone is going there anyway, please PM me, and I will of course reimburse for the proxy mission!

Rats! As you are an active member of the thread and SF, I would have given you a good deal on it! I'm keen to pass it on to active members of this thread: you know the last & brand and you contribute to the forum.

I really like the 348 except that I think as a PTB it feel, for me, a bit long. But I don't own any other 348 models so that's probably part of it. All my shoes are shorter than the 348 in equivalent size. I might still keep it though.

I'm a big fan of the 348. Although it's an elongated last, it's not comically so. Check out DC wearing the 348:
