I can think of no better way to spend an afternoon.

I live close to the Barbour US factory stores and it is nice to stop by fairly regularly to check availability. The problem is that in the last 5 years or so, I've acquired 4 waxed Barbour jackets for myself, quilted jackets for my wife and daughter and waxed Sapper for my son. If I had ready access to Northampton's finest, I'd be broke!

Have fun at EG.

I can relate to that Patrick, my wife has three C & Js, none from the FS so all full price. The girls are a little too young just yet but they got the genes!!!

I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow

Are fake c&j shoes common to find? I'm scouring on ebay and am curious to know if some of these shoes are legit or not

Not sure exactly how it but there was (is?) a South African factory that was licensed to produce shoes under the C&J label (for the SA market?).
These aren't exactly fake but aren't the Northampton CJ either...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I remember reading about this. Something along the lines of C&J nearing bankruptcy in the 1970's and selling their name to a South African shoemaker. This shoemaker is still making crappy looking shoes for the African market, but C&J avoided bankruptcy.

Cross post from the Alden thread to compare the shape/color of my recently purchased C&J Islay to my other Alden boots (Left to Right):
  • Alden Cigar captoe with commando sole on Grant last - US9D (Alden DC - picked this up off B&S before I figured out my true size)
  • Alden Cigar Indy with commando sole on Trubalance last - US8D (J. Gilbert)
  • Dark Brown Scotch Grain C&J Islay with dainite sole on 365 last - UK7E
  • Alden #8 captoe with commando sole on Grant last - US8.5D (Alden DC)

I find the Islay to be the most attractive...

but I'm biased....I don't like Aldens...I don't find them visually appealing.
