These are my new C&J Guildfords - love 'em.

So far, the collection is:

  • Connaught (plain captoe oxford) in black
  • Monkton (single monk) in chestnut
  • Malvern (single monk) in chestnut (got them for a price I couldn't resist even though I have the Monktons)
  • Guildford (brogue oxford) in dark brown

Non C&J:

  • Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

    • RM Williams Craftsman in black
    • RM Williams Craftsman in chestnut (which looks like dark brown compared to the C&J chestnut color)
    • Church's Darwin penny loafer in dark brown
    • Florsheim chukka boots in dark brown suede

I'm keen to get another pair of C&Js sometime next year but what? Double monks? Suede loafers (maybe a Sydney in chocolate suede)?

I was thinking of the Lowdnes but it would make the collection pretty heavy on the monk side of things.

Let me add to the parade of praise: That Finsbury is quite beautiful.

Half of your shoes are either monks and chelsea boots and over 1/3 of your shoes are boots. :o

I would acquire some quarter/semi brogue oxfords; but then I wear suits/coats half of the time.  Suede loafers have some very good utility value as well.  I like C&J Merton, sleek 348 last compliment slimmer suits nicely.

Sure thing, It's not such an impressive grouping by any means. But once I've filled a couple more holes I'll so a cerkle.

You're absolutely right about the boots and monks representation in the collection :) In Australia, Chelsea boots are quite acceptable with suits. I wear the monks with suits as well and quite like the look so with the boots, oxfords and monks, I've got six pairs of shoes that I can rotate throughout the work week. The loafers, chukkas and a pair of suede sneakers cover me for the weekends.

The quarter/semi-brogue oxfords sound like an interesting idea - I got the Guildfords after someone suggested a similar thing. Which C&Js appeal to you in this style?

I tried the Merton in brown calf leather at P Lal and they just looked too long on my feet. For me, I think the 348 last works better as a monk or a lace-up. For loafers, I was thinking maybe an Eaton, Sydney or Boston suede?

Speaking of the 348 last, I found that the Monktons were squeezing my little toes but was fine apart from that so two nights ago, I stuck in shoe trees that were one size too big. That seemed to have stretched them nicely the next day and I was constantly surprised throughout the day at how comfortable they were getting. I plan to try the same thing with the Guildfords as well.

Before I contact C&J directly, does anybody know what the current situation is with regard to back orders right now? I would like to get a pair of Lowndes in 8,5 UK and wish to know what the best plan would be for speed/cost effectiveness. Thanks

I would guess that C&J can ship out your order immediately.

Fit-wise, how does the 337 last compare to the 348? I have a couple of other pairs in the 348 last (Monkton and Guildford) so I know how those fit on my feet.

Chogall gave me some good advice in his post above and I'm after a pair of brown quarter/semi brogue oxfords. It's currently a toss up between the dark brown Weymouth and the chestnut Westbourne for my next pair.

I'm leaning towards the Weymouth right now but it could go either way ...

How is the fit on Clifford, nerver had a handgrade shoe? I have 7.5 E in Connaught, Chelsea and Northcote.

I currently have a pair of the Suede Drummond and Black Hallam's with the 348 last.
I would now like to purchase a pair of boots for Autumn/Winter to wear in place of the Suede Drummonds with smart jeans/tweed jackets etc.
Would you prefer the Greenwich Chelsea with it's leather sole?
263
Or the Northcote with it's more substantial storm welt and Dainite sole?
263

Would love to hear what you think! satisfied.gif

Does C&J ever have sales?

Not the seconds etc. etc. at NorthHampton. Just a plain old sale in the stores. I think I read somewhere that they usually have a sale in January. But I can't find where I read it.
