Snowdons starting to show wear nicely

These were my wife's introduction to C&J, but in burnished brown.  I am now responsible for their care, as I am for all her footwear it seems.

BootS, immediately we got home I got on with some work, the Duchess went to pick up the flower garden.

On return she showed em the boots with some pride and passed em to me saying 'do you think they need a good polish, like you do with my others'?

Unless you want the sleeker last - which I did - you may wish to opt for the Islay ( and put up with a wait for delivery). I hope to post some pics of the Purdey.

I agree that the dainite sole on the Islay is quite substantial and possibly the thickest I have seen! I really like the stitching around the welt also, the soles are thicker then the dainite on my EG Galway boots. Thanks for the comparison between the Purdey and C&J own models.

Just joined this forum today, wanted to share my love of Crockett & Jones shoes. I have 14 pairs total. I will list images of 13 of them. The one that is missing is my favorite pair the monkton in burnished chestnut which unfortunately was involved in a Christmas day accident and is now having the life brought back to them by the guys at C&J in NYC.

I have also just placed the order for my first pair of "semi-bespoke" C&J's. I have opted for a Tetbury boot in Navy golf gain with a small amount of broguing on the front and running up the heel of the boot. Also have added on a strap across the ankle with silver hardware. Should be arriving some time in March and cannot wait to see the results.

The Courtenay - handgrade Dark Brown Antique Calf - Last 363. I absolutely love these shoes. I picked them up right when C&J released them several months ago. They look great with suits but also casually with jeans/cords/khakis. They shine up beautifully.


The Crawford - handgrade Espresso calf suede - Last 363 - Got these a while back, they are my only pair of C&J loafers and I really don't wear them very often because they have a tendency to rub against my achilles tendon. Nonetheless, they are beautiful.


The Saville - handgrade Dark Brown Antique Calf - Last 337 - I have owned these for years and beaten the hell out of them and they still look great. Tons of people comment on them.



The Lowndes - Espresso calf suede - Last 348. Absolutely beautiful shoe. They've gotten a good amount of wear recently and need a little bit of care, but with a decent suede brush they clean up pretty easily. I've been told that the Lowndes in dark brown burnished calf is C&J's #1 selling shoe. I've been thinking about doing a "semi-bespoke" pair in handgrade dark brown antique calf with a dark brown crocodile cap toe. Pretty sure those would be very sexy.


The Exmoor - Dark Brown Rough-Out Suede - Last 348. Love these shoes for bad weather. They look great and they handle rain and snow like a beast. The dainite soles and storm welt hold up great with the water and the rough-out suede is basically impenetrable. They also require little to no care and over time as they've gotten beat up I think they look better - they've developed character.


The Monkton - Black Calf - Last 348 - I love the monkton shoe. I have 3 pairs of them. This one in black, however, does not receive too much attention from me because I don't wear black shoes very often. But...you gotta have one pair of black shoes for those sorts of occassions, so I went with the monkton as its stunning and works with everything.


The Monkton - Dark Brown Cotswold Grain with dainite sole - Last 348 - Picked these up at the start of this winter season, they were a new release along with a Lowndes in the Cotswold grain. I took them on a business trip to Italy in November and it was raining and nasty and these shoes kicked the crap out of the bad weather. Never had a single problem, came home, cleaned them up and shined them and they look like they're brand new. Who ever said that leather shoes can't be worn in the rain?



The Milton (unlined Tetbury) - Polo Brown Calf Suede - Last 348 - The Tetbury is the C&J shoe I wear most frequently and when they came out with the Milton which is just an unlined version of the Tetbury I jumped on it. These shoes have a great chestnut color and every time I wear them out people comment on them.


The Tetbury - Dark Brown Suede - Last 348 - I have owned these boots for I don't even know how many years now. They have literally traveled the world trekking through numerous European countries and even in the Sahara Dessert in Egypt. While they have taken a beating and it can be seen, they still look great and are extremely practical. Because the suede is treated and because I have already beaten the hell out of them I frequently opt for them in rainy situations. I'll probably get another pair of these and keep them nice and then use these for further beatings.

The Tetbury - Black Suede - Last 348 - As you can see, these are the same as the above...they are worn very frequently. Amazing boots. I highly recommend a Tetbury to anyone that wants to get into C&J's shoes and doesn't know where to start.

The Snowdon - Oak Wax Hide - Last 228 - These are the ultimate winter boot. I wear them everyday in the snow and I often wear them out in the mud in the woods and also when I shoot sporting clays. I highly recommend the commando sole over the dainite sole for snow/mud. The guys at the C&J store in NYC told me that this boot was crafted based on a previous design of the C&J boots that Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew wore on the arctic expeditions.....NUFF SAID.


SKYE 2 - Dark Brown Shell Cordovan - Last 335 - If you're really into C&J shoes these are a must-have in the cordovan. It doesn't get much more beautiful. I generally just clean them up with a cotton cloth and that cordovan mirror shine comes right back to life. Because of the heavy nature of the cordovan leather these took a little while to break in, but now they are extremely comfortable.

SKYE - Chestnut Burnished Calf - Last 335 - Literally picked these up yesterday and then wore them today. Amazing boots, a bit on the dressy side, hence they are real eye-grabbers.


Other shoes by C&J that I'm interested in are the Weymouth, Somerville, Grenville, Seymour 2, Gerrard, Hallam with the dainite sole, Harlech in shell cordovan (dying for these), Milton in ocean suede, Coniston in Navy cotswold, Cottesmore (jodphur style...but I think these may have just been discontinued), Islay (dying for these). Would love to hear opinions on any of these.

How have people's experiences been with their semi-bespoke service?

A few (13 apparently) of us on here are anxiously waiting on a group MTO (in whiskey cordovan) which are being mailed out on Monday. I'm sure there will be plenty of photos of them littering SF soon. Make sure you keep you eyes peeled for future MTO's

@tifosi - I cannot recommend the SKYE2 enough. I love them!!! These boots in the dark brown cordovan are stunningly beautiful. From the minute I got them I have enjoyed wearing them and feeling the stiff cordovan leather break in around my feet. I've worn them through winter rain, slush, and snow and they have held up great. There should be no existential quandary as to whether these boots are too nice to be worn in poor weather. These boots are calling out to live this way, it is their desire to trudge through crap weather! They just need regular care and maintenance to keep the leather in top shape.

@hoit1981 - Just read through your thread on the MTO Harlech's. I'm frankly very disappointed that I didn't get to partake in it because I would definitely have been interested. I am dying to get my hands on a pair of Harlech's. Whiskey Cordovan was a great choice and I think it will add serious character. Cannot wait to see the results as they will certainly influence future MTO's that I will undertake with Crockett & Jones! You must be freaking out that they are arriving soon!

@niklasnordin - The Saville were my first pair of C&J monk's and though they certainly will not be my last they hold a very special place in my heart as they have been through hell and high water. From business days to aggressive partying evenings to adventures abroad these shoes have done it all. The 337 Last is much less aggressive (more subdued/less flashy) with a more rounded toe than the 348 Last (monkton/lowndes) which has strong sharp lines leading up to the toe. For this reason, I find them very practical for casual less dressy situations and also for work situations where I do not want to outwardly flaunt a shoe all the while inwardly boasting that these shoes are amazingly crafted and beautiful and that they make everyone else's ordinary black gucci horsebit loafers look like crap haha. There is something to be said about an understated shoe that is in fact extraordinary.

I am fairly new to C&J (dark brown Harlechs, with a whiskey one on the way, and a C&J/Barneys Coniston in dark brown calf), so have a question for you. As you can see, my only exposure is to the 341 and 325 lasts but I am eyeing the Skye/Skye 2 and/or the Islays. I appreciate your comments about the Skye 2. Can you comment on the 335 last as compared to either the 341 or 325 lasts? I didn't see anything in your collection on the 341 but if you're interested in Conistons, you may have tried the 325 last on a few times. I'm not in a position to be able to try them on easily so would appreciate any feedback on fit/comfort.
