Enjoy. Great choice. I have a feeling those 3 lasts don't all fit the same size though - what is your experience in lasts and sizes please?

Which 3 shoes are those? Lovely.

@coolarrow

This is really great information.  Good job!

Could you please post all these valuable insights in this thread dedicated to the CJ for BB line?

That will help us to continue to build a thread to help C&J enthusiasts gather info on these very special makeups.

That would be greatly appreciated my friend!

On another note.

It seems that several years ago, CJ was; "the talk of the town" on the Fora.  At least that is what it was like when I first started lurking.

Anyway, due to the popularity, CJ began to steadily raise their prices and the enthusiasm died down a bit.  There were many other competitive makers in the same price range and their offerings were even a bit cheaper.  ( AE, Alden, Carmina etc)

In recent months and years most of those makers have in turn raised their prices again and again.  Another variable is the higher end makers (EG, G&G etc) have raised their prices as well.

The point is, C&J have quietly risen to the top again regarding price/value ratio IMO.  You can find bench grade CJ for around the same price as AE and Alden.  And at times, hand grades in that range if you wait for sales and such.  C&J have some of the finest shell cordovan offerings available IMHO.

Just a little C&J appreciation in this quintessential thread.  Hope you don't mind!

Thanks.

Sizing: I originally got these in 9D (my Marlow size) but got some heel slippage. I am 9d on the Brannock. These are 8.5D. My marlows were "comfortably snug" when first got them.  These are snugger.  However, my marlows have since expanded or maybe my foot settled into the footbed. I think these will eventually fit better than my Marlows since they are tighter.

Nice pickup. Do you know what last are these?

240 last.

on the mismatched shoe continuum

Whiskey Shell Skye 2 vs C&J for Peal Burgundy Shell. these are a new pickup, got them in 8E and was worried they would actually be too big but as of now they fit more snug than these oldies in 9d US. (which I'm sure have stretched some)

I believe 335 last on the Skye 2 vs 240 for the Peal

A wider trouser hem would help reel in that elongation.

Quick update on my recent Purdey Islay purchase w/ the 325 last for Purdey instead of the traditional 365 for CJ Islay's:

I have to say that, from a stylistic and construction standpoint, I am in love with them and can't find fault. However, I ordered a UK9.5 and am going to exchange them for a 9UK. If it helps anyone in the future, I'm a US10.5+ - like a 10.6 in my left foot and a 10.7 in my right; my right pinky toe gets crushed in narrow lasts. I found these 9.5s just a touch wide in the foot width, fine in the toebox, and a little big in the heel. if I was only ever going to wear real thick socks, they would probably work out but I'm not expecting to be in rugged cold anytime so it's more mid or even light socks at best.

Here's my other last info that might be useful for someone to compare to in the future:

CJ 358 Brunswick UK 9 1/2 E - perfect
Alden Plaza Last US10.5 B/D - great.
Carmina Simpson UK10 - snug but good.
CJ 240 (Peal boot) 10.5D - a touch big but OK
CJ 325 (Lindricks + Marlows Wingtip and Penny) 10.5D - a touch big but OK
CJ 348 (Ludlow boot) US10.5D - the right foot was about 1/4 too small, but stretched OK.

Hope that helps! I'll post an update when I get my UK9s...

Razl,

I have these same Purdeys but I am convinced that mine are the 365 last. Were yours a special makeup? I am still on the fence about these. The Skye and the Coniston are a sleeker boot in my opinion but I do appreciate the danite sole and the chocolate leather.

Regarding sizing, I am US 11 in most fits and sized down to UK 9.5 in these. They fit perfectly. I was confident that they would, as I had tried on a pair in the Jermyn Street shop a few months ago and talked myself out of the $700 price tag. Glad I did now.

I actually have zero knowledge, my 325 insight was gleaned from others in previous posts being adamant that's what it was. I recall someone saying they had both the 325 Coniston and this boot and were convinced it was the same. Maybe I should mark it as hearsay...

I specifically wanted something not sleek; a real country boot just not quite as bulbous as the stock Islay. I could have lived with it - I mean, if it's good enough for Bond, right? - but it was just a bit too much for me. Just a tad.... these seem perfect!

In that case I have much higher hopes for my replacements - similarly being sized down 1.5, like you. Can't wait!
