There was a general consensus here that the above shoe trees were designed specifically for the 337 Last.

Indeed IIRC many SF members had something to that affect confirmed by C&J.

What size in a particular last will fit you is a very different question.

But if you try on a 12 in NY, the identical shoe will be an 11 in London.

I've tried on multiple shoes in CJ NYC on multiple occasions and bought one pair and they were all labeled UK size only. The only US labeled CJs I've seen are Barneys and Ben Silver. And no one knows what those convert to.

The trees are the weak spot for me in the C&J arsenal--why do they lacquer the trees??? Why not natural wood??

I agree - I have 20+ pairs of CJ, and precisely zero CJ shoe trees.

I also subscribe to the theory that the best shoe tree is the one that is closest to the size and shape of your own foot, not the original last, as ultimately you want the shoe to conform to the shape of your foot, not the other way around.

I like the way you think!

My C&J regular stock shells all have the UK size printed on the inside lining of the shoe along with the name of the shoe, in my case 8E.

However in addition another size, 8.5, is impressed on the insole.  I have always assumed that the 8.5 stamp impression is the US size.

Has anyone else noticed a second size printed on the insole?

This is quite interesting.

I have two pairs of C&J's on the 348 and want to downgrade my black Hallam's to work shoes, and get myself a pair of Weymouth's (which are a 337) for "best".

Agreed. For a short while a part plastic tree was also trialed.

I'll add on. I wear a 7.5 UK in last 337 and I wear a 8 UD in Barrie/TruBalance/Modified, and a 8.5 US in Plaza.

I hope that helps!

nycxandy: How do you like the 348 compared to 337? Is it a lot more elongated than the 337?

I personally love the shape of the 337 last. After some discussion, the closest chukka C&J makes that resemble last 337 seems to be the Millbank on last 363.

I was heart set on the brown suede, but now I think black calf may look dandy as well.
