I called the Jermyn St store yesterday to see about what they had in stock that I might want.

Coming soon to a thread near you: Drummond in Beechnut, Hallam in Expresso Suede, Merton in Mink Suede, Merton in Beechnut.

Less than the cost of one pair of bespoke from G&G.

A bit hefty, but nothin' I can't handle. :D

Good choice. That's in my to-buy list as well. Or maybe Marston suede.

The Mertons didn't suit my feet at all but I'd definitely like to get a suede loafer someday. Looking forward to seeing pics of all the new ones when they come.

In transit for me: Pembrokes in tan scotch grain. Hopefully will be here today or sometime next week after the public holidays.

Next year's plans include a Lowndes in expresso suede and a brown calf double monk - not sure which one yet.

I debated that too -- ultimately went with the brown calf double monks....absolutely LOVE them

Plan is to order a pair of Weymouths next week and then take a break from shoes until the summer -- that's the plan at least...:embar:

Maybe the Merton Suedes and a pair of Velvet slippers for summer 2012...

I didn't write that properly - I plan to get a pair of double monks in suede and brown calf

Only thing is that I'm not sure which brown calf double monks to get. Which ones did you go for?

I debated this for a long time and couldn't decide between one or the other

Since I am finally content with my C&J collection, for the first time in a few years I won't be making any Christmas sales purchases. So I thought I would share my modicum of knowledge with UK based SFers

Whilst Jermyn St and Burlington arcade get the lions share of sale stock (Mr Murdock ensures this) don't forget about the C&J store in the City.

However if you are particularly interested in Handgrades - seriously consider Birmingham - they only get a few, but the demand is far lower, so you are more likely to get something.

I have usually telephoned Birmingham on the day of the sales and with only a little persuasion, they have held shoes for me until the next day. Where the Handgrades are subs (most of the sales stock are) they have even knocked off a further 10% where I promise not to return them.

Highly recommended :D

Northcote on Dainite Sole:

I have these as my first boots, they last so long and great for jeans, I never regret buying it, best shoe investment up to date

i am in that dilema whether to take a drive there instead of facing the long queues in london stores on the day of the sales.

Depends what you are after and how long a drive we are talking. You could always give Birmingham branch a call tomorrow and ask what's likely to be available.

Personally I always did London first because I could visit other sales nearby. But I would also call Birmingham that day and request them to hold items for me until the next day.

As I say it didn't take too much effort in persuading them to do this and get over the 'sorry we can't hold sale items for customers' spiel.

Best of luck to you.
