Tailor lost RLBL suit pants - SOLVED?

I finally stepped into the proper suit market about a month ago and took my RLBL new charcoal suit to the tailor and when I went to pick up a few items the pants to the suit were nowhere to be found and are still missing a week later. He has offered to make me a suit in return, which is a wonderful offer that I will accept, however I am willing to give him a few more weeks to see if they turn up. The only options are that someone will return them (very confident that would happen) or they will appear in the shop.

A couple of thoughts - do the black label charcoal pants that are sold as separates have any chance as a substitute, or would I have any hope in contacting RL to see about a replacement options (shot in the dark)?

I was breaking in the suit for a party this weekend and am also wondering if there was any other pants options that I could pair with the jacket to still at least get a small taste of what could have been (other shade of gray or different color for example)...thanks for the advice!

Bespoke tailors carry hundreds of shades of "black" fabric. It's technically hard to match, although a person on the street wouldn't notice.

I wouldn't accept a pair of pants from the tailor as a replacement for the lost RLBL ones. He should buy you a new pair

?? Supposed the suit was not sold as separates? Where would he get pants from?
OP, wearing a "orphan" jacket and pants is no bueno.
Having the tailor make you a suit is sketchy as you don't know the quality of his work. Would he buy you a new suit??

If they were sold as separates then contact RL, they may have some old stock in
a warehouse somewhere.

You say the tailor will make you a suit. From what I gather a bespoke/MTM suit would be worth more than replacement trousers.

If you don't like the tailors work then ask him to pay for a new Black Label suit in Charcoal. Either way he's going to be out of pocket by a significant margin.

1) See if RL has the separates that will perfectly match. Tell them all the specs on your suit. Have the tailor pay for it.

2) If that doesn't work, then ask him to buy a whole suit for you. I don't think this will work out though, unless you take him to small claims court.

3) If that doesn't work, sit down and have him match the damn cloth EXACTLY. And make him fit it perfect to your specs. I feel like if you force him to match the fabric (which can be done) then it will be fine. You just need to get it out for your head that it's not the original. Yes, it's annoying and you'll be scrutinizing the pants for mismatching, but try not to.

Sorry to hear this. I have a short temper for things like this and I would want to explode on him!!!

Not necessarily, especially in this case. OP has a solid charcoal jacket in the Anthony cut. RLBL also make (or has made) solid charcoal sportcoats in the exact same cut. I am willing to bet that the vast majority of folks couldn't for the life of them tell the difference, especially if OP changes the buttons.

The offer from the tailor is nice, but would you have paid the equivalent of a RLBL suit for his suit before this incident?

It was bought as the full Anthony suit - I have put the feelers out to friends who may have RL corporate contact to see if I could fish out an (somehow) orphaned pair of new charcoal pants.

I have not seen his bespoke work yet, however I will before I commit to anything. Ironically enough I asked him about his suits when I took everything in and he said he starts at $1,300 (I'm in SC). Having him make pants is always an option if I feel comfortable with it.

The most frustrating part (other than disappearing pants) is that I 'worked' for about a year to find a new 40L for sale well under retail and as soon as I get my first one, its blown.

I'm still holding out a few weeks of hope that they will turn up in his shop. I estimate he turns his work in process inventory every 2 - 3 weeks, so I'll give him that time before I decide on a final plan.

That really sucks...I'm the same size and I haven't found the Anthony suit at a price point I'm willing to pay yet. It sounds like you have a plan you're going to stick to now, wait it out just a bit to see if they turn up. Hopefully they do, but if not you always have a free bespoke suit to fall back on.

There's no way, no how that he's going to find a "matching" fabric to make another pair of pants. Close isn't good enough for a suit. Your only real chance is to see if RL can replace them.

that's a dam shame. part of the like i have towards rlbl and in particular their suits, is the pants. the fit and features of their pants are so sharp and sexy superlative (if it fits correctly). that in most cases, makes or breaks the entire suit. the pants. and rlbl gets it done RIght.

i hope he finds it for you. cuz the pants on the rlbl suit MAKES the suit

You're reading comprehension sucks. Reread the original post, it says the taylor will make him a SUIT. I didn't even graduate college and I can plainly read the post.

In college they'd have taught you to read the comments too. Jerk.

I did read the comments, that's how I got so dumb-founded by your answer.
