Tailoring a Nylon Jacket

Thread Starter
I'm interested in buying one of JCrew's Nylon Racer Jackets from F/W 09 off eBay, but unfortunately I've heard that it's sized a bit big, rather than a slim fit. I probably need a small, but sellers only offer the medium. I realize that buying something that doesn't fit you and trying to tailor it radically never creates good results, but if I were interested in trying to slim up the jacket as much as I can, what could be done? I'm going to assume that the sleeve length and armholes are fine, and I am more concerned about the body of the jacket, with the shoulders, or torso area, which will probably particularly baggy or loose. I also want to note that the jacket does come with a belt though, which might help a bit in making it look more fitted to my slim build. Any suggestions? Better yet, does anyone else have personal experience with this jacket? I'm referring to this: Thanks!

are you kidding me? buy a small if your a small. if you size to big and tailor you wont get the same results as you would buying your proper size. the tailor will have to take in the shoulders, sides, etc. so it wont be worth the trouble. if you cant buy it at retail im sure the crew runs sales several times a year.

Bad idea written all over it. Bro, never buy something that is not your size no matter how much you like it or if it's on sale. Especially with your situation. It'll run you a lot of money and time in order to get it properly tailored...

trying to tailor down sizes will always cost u way more than u thought, and the finished product will never fit perfectly like u wanted it to. i have tried tailoring a couple button up shirts before and there was always some part that was still weird with it, shortening sleeves is alright, but thats as far as i would take it
