In today's economic downturn, and I have reiterated this comment before, it makes perfect sense to acquire as much physical gold and silver as a substitute for declining dollar. It is a safeguard for our declining currency.

Gold is pretty weak unless you alloy it with some other metals.
Also if you don't alloy in some lighter metals, you get 24k jewelery which looks pretty much universally tacky on all but the darkest complexions.
Silver is awesome although it can tarnish.
