does whey protein actually help?

been taking it for a few weeks now along with my workout and plenty of calories, and have to say ive noticed zero improvement in weight gain or muscle growth. Taking 50g after i work out and 25g when i wake up. Im not sure what i expected to see, but probably slightly higher weight gain due to being able to repair and build muscle better.

If your not gaining weight your not eating enough. 50g of whey protein is only like 30g of protein so thats not really going to do much. Whey protein does work.

i have been working out hard for the past 6ish weeks and i make a protein shake in the morning after my workout and one at night right before bed. i also eat about 4 to 5 solid meals, each of them with some form of protein. i have gained 15 pounds and lots of people at my school have said i look bigger and stronger. i also feel stronger.

whey helps, but not as much as other forms of protein due to how quickly it is absorbed. Save it for PWO, everything else use a different source.

Work? Work as what? A source of protein? Yes, ofcourse it does. That's all it is though, an alternative to another protein source. Not magic powder.

still gaining weight slowly but expected the whey to speed it up a little. When i say 50g i mean 50g of protein which is how much is included in the 2 scoops of whey. Actually getting sleep has been my biggest problem, is this likely to make a big difference? I would guess at less than 7 hours per night.

Your not gonna explode and get huge from whey protein, you probably won't notice much of a difference, they aren't exactly steroids. Just keep eating lots and lifting.

You can't force growth. Naturally it's a slow process so speeding it up too much is likely to result in excess fat gain. Sleep is important. 8 hours should suffice but I know who people who get less (or more) and still progress..

Food > whey pp bloats my stomach like crazy, so I had to stop taking it completely. I did, however, upped my food intake and have been gaining steadily without all that synthetic crap.

To OP: Whey protein is not magic. It is merely a way to get enough protein. You theoretically don't need it if you can get enough protein from other sources. What is your maintenance calorie level and what do your macros look like? If you don't know the answers to these questions, you pretty much know why you have not gained weight or strength.

I drink whey plus a bunch of other stuff blended up when I'm not hungry, but need to eat. Drinking calories is easier than eating whole food when you do not have an appetite.

I guarantee OP isn't eating enough if he isn't gaining. Whey is a supplement to food. I take 3 scoops a day. But I also eat a crap load.
