Earnest Sewn Fulton Patriot - Page 3

The Fulton Line Dry's are are a best seller down here, in ATL. They are a really nice intoduction into the raw denim market for the people who are just getting into it now. I've found that the averge consumer doesn't know much about selvage denim... crazy huh? If anyone one needs a pair, let me know.

I do realize that this is not the buy/sell thread, but I think that I need to get a 33W on my Patriots. If anyone is interested in purchasing mine, with a 32" hemmed inseam, at $110, please let me know. edit: This pair has been listed in the "selling" forum.

So why won't these work blank? They should stretch...
The measurement on my 32W Patriots is ~ 32 inches.

The measurement on my 32W RRDS after 5 months is around 34 inches.

Nothing that I've read says that the Sewns will stretch 2 full sizes, and then even if they do, if I wash them, they'll likely shrink back down to an unmanageable size. I think the most accurate statement was somewhere back in this thread, that ES sizes these jeans down specifically to account for stretch, so that buyers will still pick up their natural jean size and not worry about the jeans getting ruined.

That isn't my experience with ES at all. My Hutches, Jakimos, Filsons, Kyrres, and Fultons have all stretched about 2" in the waist and although I haven't washed any of them, if they're like any other jean, they'll shrink part of the way back after washing and stretch right back out, but its up to you.

Did you actually wear a size 34 and size down to 32, just out of curiosity?

Nope, my traditional size in any pre-washed jean (Paper Denim, Diesel or Nudie pre-washed) is a 33W, always and forever. I sized down the 32 on the RRDS because, well, sizing down 1 is the RRDS tradition, and I followed it, and it worked. Maybe I'll give them another day or two of wear, but my big concern is that if I wear them for a week or so and they don't stretch, then they will lose some of their resale value. I guess the biggest problem is that outside of TheGrapist, there isn't much feedback on how the Patriot wash specifically stretches.

My Fulton Patriots are a 34W and I'm a true 35 waist. They fit me perfectly after about 3-4 days of wear. The Patriots are actually a raw jean and stretch like most raw jeans IME. Line Drys stretch a bit less.

I wish I'd measured the Nudies when I first got them. I guess my thing is that if now the Nudies fit me perfectly and they are a true 34, how likely is it that my Sewn's will ever reach a true 34 inch waist. From what you're saying, they've stretched an inch. I'd need more than that.

Can you wear the ES comfortably? If you can, they'll stretch to the width you need. It sounds like from your comments that you can put the jeans on and wear them without serious discomfort. If so, you'll be fine. They're dry jeans (basically) so they'll stretch. If they're so tight you can't wear them for an hour without discomfort or whatever then sell them.

Well, if I wear them above my hips, essentially pulling them up higher than I like them to sit, they fit somewhat comfortably, but when I sit they become uncomfortable again. I can't wear them on my hips like I prefer to wear my jeans. I just think they're too darn tight; when I lay my Nudies on top of the Patriots it becomes clear that I'll need more than the average inch of stretch. I'm going to try to grab the 33's. I appreciate all of your help drizzt. I owe you one. Meanwhile, I'm kicking myself here; I'm in this situation because I wasn't thorough enough when I tried the jeans.

Finally, FINALLY have these (ES Fulton Patriot) coming in a 33W. How much will these shrink after wash? Could I get them hemmed right away or should I wait until after washing them a first time?

mine shrank negligibly, if at all. A little stiff pulling them on, perfect within minutes. I haven't had them hememd yet (I'm rocking lots of stacking PLUS 3 inch cuffs. niiiice), but I think you're safe to have them hemmed to right where you want, or a quarter inch longer if you wanna hedge your bets.

Thanks, Joel. Neither stacking nor three-inch cuffs work for me (though I'm sure you pull it off!) so I'll wear them a bit and get them hemmed. Probably bring my 5EP Resins, too. Going on 2 months of wear, so I wanted to wash them and get them hemmed.
