Which car brand comes with the best service? - Page 3

I couldn't be happier with my Lexus dealer service (Longo Lexus in El Monte).

When I had my 30k service done, they came to my workplace (35 miles away, up to 2 hours in LA traffic) to pick up my car on a flatbed truck and dropped off their loaner IS350.

When my car was finished the next day, they flatbed delivered my car back to my workplace.

On top of that, their 30k maintenance service charge was $200-$300 cheaper than the local dealers (Santa Monica & Beverly Hills).

How much was the 30k service?

Someone is paying for that service . . . and it stands to reason it's the customers.

I used to try to cultivate relationships with dealer service departments. Overall, a waste of time. Much better to use Angie's list or Yelp to find good private car repair shops (that my be more convienant to get to as well). Much lower cost also.

I agree. I know the service guys at the dealerships where my cars are serviced, and they're good guys and all, but other than them calling me by name when I walk in the door, the relationships haven't provided me with any additional advantages.

There is no answer to the posters original question.

Automakers do not own any dealerships in the U.S....dealerships are franchises and while some automakers do a better job of selecting who to gets to sell their product, dealers in general are a mixed bag.

For people to say Lexus has the best service is incorrect, rather they should state which Lexus dealership has good service. For example, I leased an Audi a few years back. I had a bad service experience from the dealership I got the vehicle from. The next time, I took my car to a different Audi dealership to get routine service and was pleased with the experience. Does this mean Audi has good or bad service?

Some car dealers take pride in their service department because it can increase the chance of customers repurchasing from them (thinking about customer lifetime value). Some car dealers simply do not invest in their service department because they are more concerned about car sales or there are an overabundance of independent service providers in the area.

Bill, This is a remarkably unintelligent post. Car makers in fact pretty much exert tons of control over their dealers which is why JD Power does rank car brands by after-sale service. One of the reasons Lexus has led this list for many decades is that each and every Lexus dealer has A+ service.

Artisan,

JD Power conducting their Customer Service Index (CSI) has nothing to do with how much automakers exert control over their dealers. All OEMs will conduct Service Training (nationally and regionally), set guidelines and best practices for their dealers service operations. How well the dealer executes varies greatly.

All automakers wish they have more control over their dealership body and have them comply with corporate guidelines. Also, OEMs are more concerned sales process and work with dealers constantly to improve JD Power's Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI).

Lexus has not been the leader in CSI for the past 20 years...they led in 2009 and 2010 but were #4 in 2007 and 2008.

Longo Lexus was about $300 while Santa Monica and Bev. Hills were asking close to $600.

In my neck of the woods...there are 3 dealerships that I have gone to that have great service.

1. Lexus dealership with a lounge with computers, massaging chair, tv, mini fridge with drinks, donuts, magazines. It makes the wait a bit better considering they are a "destination" dealership.

2. Lexus dealership closer to the city with great service and MANY rental cars and shuttle vans.

3. Audi Dealership. They are a destination dealership so they hire ex police officers to come pick up your car, drop off a rental and return the car when it is done. They do not charge for it either.

I have gone to many other dealerships that have sucked including a 2 BMW dealerships.

My experience with Infiniti was exceptional. I owned two Infiniti models over an 8 year period ,and, was always treated with First Class servicing and always provided with a loaner vehicle.

I now use Toyota for my 2010 Prius and the particular Dealer has Lexus level service each time I visit, the brand relationship has filtered over some of that "Relentless" attitude over into the Toyota line( A Good Thing).

My experience with Infiniti also has been very positive. They always provide a nice loaner, and do a good job with the SUV. Thankfully, other than routine maintenance, I see them rarely because the vehicle has been flawless.
