Trickers sizing? - Page 2

Tricker's sizing is tricky! I am a size 10, F (UK) in most shoes, but take a 9.5, 5 in the "Bourton" brogue. So half a size down for me. The 10 would be too big. In the "Grasmere" I take a 9.5, 6 with a thin sock. The 6 on this last is really a medium-wide, or FX, rather than a medium (e.g. F)! I think for most of the sizes you're thinking about half a size down on your usual size. Does of course depend on the model and the last. The "Grasmere" and the "Bourton" are quite big. In their business / city range you might be ok with your normal size on a 5. Not much help, I'm afraid. As ever, if you can try them on in the shop. Bit of a problem if you can't get to London though. You could contact The Shoe Healer in Doncaster. They are immensely helpful and I believe they have over twenty years or so experience of selling Tricker's, including some lines made only for them. I'm sure they would know. Absolutely superb customer service.

I fall between a US10.5E and 10EEE in most US dress shoes (AE, etc). In the Tricker's Bourton, I got a 9 (fitting 5), and they are just perfect. I particularly feared they might be tight in the width, but they are my favorite shoes at the moment and fit like a dream.

Thanks, but I'm increasingly finding that most English shoes fit better in size 11.5 due to the fact that most are slightly wider than the US normal width. For instance I wear:

11.5E Crockett & Jones 341 & 348
11.5F Joseph Cheaney
11.5F Grenson Rose 107 last

12F in Church's 173 is slighly roomy
12E in Edward Green 202 is perfect
12.5D Allen Edmonds #5 is perfect
12EE on Alfred Sargent 106 last
13D (US) on Sargent 87 last

David at the Tricker's factory shop measured these for me but unfortunately ebay deleted the message. I will try the 11.5 -5 if they have it.

Thanks

Just to add to the knowledge base, I tried on a pair of Stow boots yesterday and was a size 8, width 5. Same with the shoe variant. I have a pair of CJ country boots which fit well and these are 8.5 E. And I just bought a pair of RM Williams Craftsman in 8H (almost perfect fit I think). (Incidentally, I didn't buy the Trickers as I was anxious about the degree of heel lift. The double soles would either need to give quite a bit or the country last is not right for my feet. Will do a search right now to see if there's anything here on that issue.)

Just wanted to bump this thread as I haven't seen anyone post comparisons with Red Wing or Common Projects. I wear 6.5D in Red Wing 875 and 40 in Common Projects Achilles. Anyone have any experience with these brands and Tricker's? I'm torn between 6UK and 6.5UK.

I am a tts 12D and usually take a UK 11 5 fitting in just about every trickers shoe but its a tad bit loose. When I size down to UK 10.5 5 fitting, its too tight. Given your shoe size, I think you could size down 1 and be good

Going down 1 or 1/2 will depend on the last. I have 2 pairs of Trickers Robert Derby shoes that fit very good. I went down on 1/2 size.
most US shoes 11.5 medium
UK shoes (CJ, Lobbs, etc) 10.5E Churches 10.5F
Vass??? Still searching for the right size

SF Offical Trickers shoes and boots thread is a good source for sizing info

I usually sit between a 10.5 and 11 US for most shoes/sneakers.

Would UK 10 in trickers be ideal, or 9.5?

The true size and last of Tricker's shoes are stamped on the bed of the shoe beneath the insole and the foam heal pad, not on the lining or on the box.

With shoes made for sale to US dealers, one must be very careful. Sometimes Tricker's will write a size where one would expect (on the lining) that is for that particular US dealer (in US sizing) and NOT the UK size.

For instance, I just (sadly) acquired the exquisite Robert new from eBay, where it was advertised as UK12/US12.5. The shoe was clearly a US 12, and when I looked under the heal pad, sure enough, it was a UK 11.5. The eBay seller was an honorable gent, and I won't make it his problem, but this is good information for us all. The size conversion in my Robert had already been made when the lining was marked. That is, the size 12 indicated was actually a US 12!

So my question for anyone is what the provenance of the Robert is. Were these made for a US dealer? The internet is surprisingly mum on them, and none of the UK Tricker's gurus I know know much about them--and they are very hard to find for sale. My guess is they were made for a big US retailer? If so, which one?

I would love to find an actual UK 12 in this beautiful shoe. And if anyone wants a US 12 in them . . .
