I need some cheapish boots for mission work

Thread Starter
I just found out that this summer I'm going to get to travel to Missouri and help out some people who lost their homes in flooding last year.

I've done missions before but nothing this major, and since I'll be doing some serious construction I figure I need to get some work boots that are actually decent.

Why am I asking you guys? Well, because I don't want them to be ugly.

My budget is semi tight. Let's try to keep it under a benjamin.

If you can stretch your budget slightly, you can get a pair of Thorogood 6" workboots for about $125. Made in USA. I have two pairs (the said $125 pair from bootsonline, and a pair from Epaulet in horsehide) and both are high quality and comfortable. They run slightly (1/2 size) large so keep that in mind if ordering online.

I second the Thorogood. Also, you might look into some of the Clarks boots. They don't need to be broken in, are nice and cushioned, sturdy, but don't have the support of real workboot.

another suggestion - stretch your budget and get some ll bean katahdin. great boots and the ll bean warranty is great.

While I don't own Katahdins, the reaction I've seen suggests they're perfect for what you're doing. I own Clarks DBs and both pairs are splitting at the soles, and the leather gets scratched really easily. This is fine if you're just wearing them for the day and can change the next, but if you're only brining one pair it better be something rugged.

also, keep an eye out on the b&s section of this site. katahdins, red wing iron range,r and other similar boots pop up fairly regularly.

Yeah, I think either Thorogoods or Katahdins would be perfect. I think RW is a little overrated but if you can get a good deal, go nuts.
