My daughter is almost 2 and she adores her iPad. The learning apps are incredible. We control tightly what she uses on it (as if she knew what else existed

) But its really impressive what you can do with that thing. And its amazing for her on the plane. Slap on some Fresh Beat Band and shes good for 2 hours.

Suppose I'm waiting for the revision before I invest in one. I like my macbook, but I see a lot more application of this in the classroom and in the field (PE and History). Probably keep the PC at home and just use this at school- keep a bluetooth keyboard or one of the keyboard docks in my office. $500 is a lot of dough-rae-me though.

That would be great! Just so I can pick up another iPad 1. Between my wife, kids, and i My iPad is pretty much in use as long as someone is home. I have no use for an iPad with a camera or 3G.

I agree with the others as a web browsing devise or for presentations the iPad is hard to beat but I wouldn't want to try and type a decent sized anything without a real keyboard.

anyone experience with the ipad + bluetooth keyboard as a laptop replacement?

I just do heavy emailing, word and excel stuff so I'm figuring that this might work.

I've used a BT keyboard on one, it seemed to work fine.

Not when it is so easy to get plans for a fraction of that price, no.

Girl has one and loves it. I thought I'd want one, but still cannot give up my 15" MacBook Pro.

If v2 has a hi res screen, I may buy one for ***** and giggles. I've heard no, though, because of the retina screen's price point.

Rumours are the v3 is ready for rollout before end of 2011. If it has the new screen, it may well be more expensive. Maybe Apple will roll out v2 and v3 at the same time. v2 $499 with all the new bells and whistles and v3 $699 with bells and whistles and that fabulous retina screen. We'll see.

**** no. I have a lenovo x series and while not a tablet, it's really small and, it's awesome for sitting in bed or on the couch. It's small and light enough that i don't mind carrying it. Batteries last forever. Oh, and it's a real computer with 8gb ram, an SSD, that i can run a real OS on and have a full-size keyboard.

I need to type when i'm on the web. I never just browse, so a tablet is pretty worthless to me except to select songs on my HTPC. On that note, i might buy a first gen once they're cheap, just for that purpose.

i have a kindle3 for reading.

Depending on what you do in Excel, you may or may not find the iPad satisfying. You should give it a good test drive before you buy. It's really not a computer replacement for most users.

Not liking the way a company treats its customers or the software they give you to manage the item aren't good reasons? I'd like to see your defense of that position.
