I'm planning on just getting Apples smart cover and then this snap back cover, which is compatible with the smart cover: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Belkin+-...&skuId=2573477

I was thinking of going that route, but with the Zagg invisible shield on back.

What does everyone think about the latest iPad 3 rumor? Apparently there isn't going to be an iPad 3 this year but an iPad 2 Plus or iPad 2 HD in a few months.

So the wife wants an iPad and it makes a lot of sense as a Christmas gift. But these iPad 2+ rumors have me a little gunshy about buying one now and avoiding the Christmas crush.

Should I wait? (and inevitably be forced to participate in the Christmas frenzy?)

Remember, 2011 was the "year of the ipad" so I don't think iPad will be updated before Christmas. Probably Q2 2012

^^^I'm ready for another one, but will wait until a new one comes out. Q2 would be good.

At this point I have become a full convert into the idea of a tablet, but I am spoiled by the iphone 4 screen. I'll wait until apple (or a competitor) comes out with a 10" screen with 300dpi or better. Ipad 2 looks too pixelly to me.

I dunno about other people, but basically it's a couch computer. Something you look at while watching TV. I know this sounds pathetic but I don't know anyone my age who doesn't regularly look at the internet while watching TV at home. It's also a good way to let guests use a computer without letting them access your personal (ahem porncache) computer

The next generation iPad won't be out for 6 months or so - waiting until Xmas will gain you nothing. The real upgrade was iOS5, which is out; an iPad 2 bought now will last her until iOS6 which is likely more than a year and a half away.

CChen has his 32 up for sale in FS:Other. I'd jump on that. Its a good deal.

So far, just the regular video app is working pretty well. Using Handbreak on the iPad settings and everything's going smoothly.

I need a case. Anybody recommend something in particular?

Did a bit of digging - anybody tried the Switchback Canvas case? Gets rave reviews.

Are you talking about the Switcheasy Canvas? Very nice case, especially the fit and finish. I've heard people complaining about the latch, but mine works fine.

Just got one of these in. Very nice construction quality and the finish is impressive but its just too damn heavy. Makes the iPad a whole pound heavier. Not much in the long term scheme of things but it just feels like a damn brick.
