The reason I'm asking is because I was told by C&J that I could only re-sole my shoes one more time, which effectively puts the limit at 2 full recraftings. I wonder if this is a company wide policy or a case by case basis. I've been told that many other factories similarly don't recraft more than 2 or 3 times but am curious if they even make a point to record the number of times the shoes have been sent back.
I was having a chat with the gentleman in the factory shop about this, he says typically a the uppers will struggle with re-lasting past the 2nd or 3rd repair, obviously wearing conditions & age have a big impact on this. Cheaney don't write in the shoe (like Church's) so I'm not sure how they keep track. The original batch numbers are still visible and unlikely to wear given their location, so maybe it's that they use.
In the past I've had Church's take 3 repairs, but, at the time the uppers were well worn and the shoes were starting to look shabby.
