Dealing with last minute eBay Outbid Feelings

Picture the scene - you have been watching for a whole week a once in a lifetime item of clothing on eBay. You are prepared to pay top dollar, and you know full well this item has not gone undetected by those intending to snipe last minute. You post your absolute maximum bid 6 seconds before auction end, and then find someone has outbidded you when you refreshed the page.

How do you feel at the end of the auction? Remember this item you were bidding on was just about the best thing you ever saw.

I feel empty. Hollow. As if everything I've ever known and loved was erased from existence and my memories were naught but figments of my overactive imagination. I pray for death.

I saw a pair of good condition of AE in size 8 sold for .99 with $10 shipping that I missed. I get so pissed when people out snipe me, I kept looking at the ended auction item photo and think to myself "****...I could of had this...

I've had this happen to me and due to the community of collectors and message boards for that item category I knew just who it was who had beaten me and my course of action was messaging the buyer and working out private purchase of the item from him and using him as a proxy of sorts. But prior to us agreeing on terms I was beside myself.

Where's the "vigorous masturbation, followed by a nice mellow smoke" poll choice?

Worst I felt: Was highest bidder with a respectable bid on a Duffle Coat in a wonderful Tan color. Got outbid, as expected with 10secs to go, and then when I decided to jump in and post a higher bid, eBay logged me out! By the time I logged in, auction was over.

That was the last time I adopted a sniping attitude. Felt like crap afterwards - That was the best looking, highest quality duffle coat I ever saw. Never found anything like it since.

Yes. The feeling is damn fcuked up if its an item thats pretty darn rare.

I comfort myself that the winning bid of $656.88 isn't the actual amount the buyer is willing to pay but is actually like $1,800.00. I then kick myself for not dicking with the buyer by pushing his bid as high as possible, so he would pay much more than $656.88.

I then get pissed off with my computer, which by the time it reloads, the auction is over.

I then console myself that I've got way too much shoes or shirts etc. Even if its a pewter black museum calf Lobb Prestige or a Vass thats less than a $100, so be it.

I feel awful, but move on to other things, it is not the end of the world. After all if I found that unique piece, I can still find another unique piece or even a better piece who knows.

And I make it my philosophy to always move on, whether I am successful or not so this one is not an exception to that philosophy.

If you really wanted it, you'd have increased your max bid by 50%

Then how do you feel after you find out a co-bidder with the same mentality executed a $500,000 max bid?
