Bose Headphones - Page 3

I guess to me, I only really appreciated the difference in good sound after I listen to something better and revert to something crap. I went from the white iPod ear buds to Shure E2Cs, to Etymotic ER-4P to Shure E500 (where I am at now).

When I go back to inferior products, even the excellent E2cs, it sounds like I'm listening through an aquarium. Even more amazing is when moving to better earphones, hearing layers of music you've never heard before. Absolutely mesmerizing.

So if one has tried better products and still believes Bose to have superior sound, then that's great. But if one hasn't tried better audio equipment then one cannot be justified in saying that the brand is any good. A lot of people out there will happily tell you that Apple produces great earphones because the earphones that came with the iPod is better than the $1 earphones that they got with their walkman. Better yes, great no.

Now I'm just waiting to be able to afford JH-16s. I could have gotten them... but then I found this site and the BST.

I recently bought a pair of Shure SRH840s, and I love them. Very natural-sounding, no fiddling around with the music.

It is true that Bose is overpriced compared to the performance. They have been quite innovative though, but still doesn't justify the price.

Shure, Etymotic, Monster, and Beyerdynamic have much better options for less money.

+1. You don't KNOW what you're missing. Once you wear a solid pair for even just a few hours you'll suddenly start hearing everything in a new way. You'll hear new things in old music even. it's hard ot explain but it's like if your glasses are dusty, you think you can see fine, but then you clean them and suddenly everything looks sharper.

+1. It always irks me when people pull the "to ME it is fine" when they're being told something contrary to their beliefs by others who are more knowledgable in the subject.

They're pretty good, stay away from the home systems though. turn off the bass and listen to the speakers - it's the amp that's the boost behind it all.

ANY of these will be VASTLY superior to the Bose.

I'm sorry, but anyone who purchases Bose products these days just haven't done their research properly. Or appreciate good sound.

*EDIT* In case it wasn't clear, anyone looking for some incredible headphones don't buy Bose.

Have you ever used those Shore headphones? They sound like my anus.

Sometimes the pseudo-audiophile community gets its panties up in a bunch about Bose, but if you enjoy them and they're only $99 go for it. They're going to be a lot better than stock iPod buds, for instance, and the majority of the other Dr. Dre type crap. Finally, it looks like Bose engineered an in-ear headphone that stays in place when you're working out. Much needed.

I have $500 Klipsch in-ear, noise-isolating headphones and they're better than Bose but much more expensive.

The BOSE aregument always strikes me as saying: Guy One: I bought an Audi A4 2.0TDi. Its a good fast car for four people Guy Two: Dude for a bit more money you could have had an RS4. Its faster and a much better product. Guy one: I go to the supermarket once a week. Why do I need a track-day car? Guy Two: You just don't get cars!!!!!

^ Not really analogous, there are a lot of alternatives for the same price as Bose that perform much better.

THIS WAS THE INTENTION OF THE WHOLE ORIGINAL POST THAT PEOPLE HAVE DEVIATED FROM.

My $20 JVC Marshmallow headphones stay in my ear just fine at the gym or snowboarding and probably sound nearly as good as the Bose to the lay person.
