Alternative to the 2010 (Canadian made) J. Crew Vintage slim?

I picked up a pair of J. Crew vintage slim jeans, summer 2010. They're probably the best jeans I've ever owned, and fit me perfectly; I really dislike rolling up my jeans to get the correct length. They were long enough to fit nicely with my sperry topsiders in the spring/summer, and short enough to work well with boots in the winter. (They're sized 30x30) I went to J. Crew in December to pick up a second pair, but was disappointed to see that the feel of the jean was entirely different. Looking at the label, I was even more displeased - 'Made in China.' I don't mind paying $100+ for a good pair of jeans (I wear my J. Crew vintage slims almost every day), but I'll damned if I pay the same price for jeans that were once made in North America, but are now made in China. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good alternative to the vintage slims that were sold last year. I was taking a look at Left Field Jeans on the Denim Debate blog - http://denimdebate.com/2010/11/2329/ but I can't seem to find the same wash of jeans available for purchase online. Also, the jeans come with a 34' inseam...Would they still look alright if I had them tailored to a 31' inseam? Oh, and I went over to jcrew.com and saw they have a new 484 jean...Anyone try those out? The dark worn wash looks pretty nice; http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/d...8555/38555.jsp thanks!

I too was pretty pissed when I realized that the Crew shipped their denim work over to China. WEAK!

For a bit more why don't you check out Naked and Famous (made in Quebec) or Epaulet's Smith Slim/Straight denim.

I like jcrew's 484 and have been wearing a selvage pair for about 6 months now. These: http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/d...0367/30367.jsp

However, I agree with sazon. Try out Naked and Famous or Nudie, or just look around the forums and learn about what good stuff is out there. Go try on different brands and cuts to see what you like.
