Well this would become.... blue tie

I think dinner jackets and tuxes should remain BLACK

Same as the facing on the jacket. I have midnight blue facing on mine and my tailor made a cummerbund and bowtie from the same fabric.

I think Matt has recognized that midnight blue actually looks blacker than black does at night.

I would say a black tie would work if going with a white shirt.

Tie always matches lapels. Black grosgrain lapels, for example, mean a black grosgrain tie.

Blue dinner jackets usually have black lapels. I've only seen one done any other way.

Was that other one done with midnight blue facings or something else?

Black.

The color, and material should match the facing of the lapels.

I have four midnight blue dinner jackets (it was a much more popular option in the 40s and 50s and readily available in RTW); only one has black lapels. The others are faced in midnight blue satin, and I have a cummerbund and tie to match.

I think Havana brown grosgain lapels with midnight blue would be very nice.

I wear a black silk faille (to better match the texture of the grosgrain) bowtie with my DJ, which has black grosgrain facings on a midnight blue cloth.

Have you found a cloth you like?

Yes. It is a wool/mohair blend.
