I've just come from seeing Nixon in China at the Met, with John Adams conducting. It was sublime.

Half your luck recently sat down one afternoon and listened to the whole opera undisturbed.

If you get the opportunity it is worth seeing a
Production. I don't have the link with me, but there is video of a production in full on youtube. Part 2 has Nixon's arrival, which really has to be seen. I won't spoil it if you don't know how it's staged.

That's great--I envy you! I never really "got" John Adams until I saw Doctor Atomic. (I saw it on the Met subscription service, not live.) I've never seen a production of Nixon in China in any form, but I can imagine it would be an amazing experience.

^^Love the avatar, that's a fine song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXXmjR0aCug video of the 1987 Houston Grand Opera production, in 17 parts. Nixon's arrival in part 2 is not to be missed.
