Viberg Boots - Page 400

Now I'm not so sure. There is that sensation of my forefoot 'riding up' into the toebox, but OTOH, these have more toe spring than I'm used to... compared to any of my aldens, the toe ends up nearly a half inch higher.

This is causing no shortage of grief for me as I was one of the lucky few to snag those Brandys, and as they're a pre-order I have time still to set my size. I asked Guy to change them to an 8, but now I'm not so sure... not exactly like I'm going to have a second chance to nail my size in a grail boot that will likely not come around again.

As much as I would love to take the preorder off your hands, I would suggest the 8 with an insole.

Quite tight. The funny thing is it doesn't seem to make a difference... tightness or socks. I can stick my foot in sockless and I get that sensation. When I put my weight down there is a palpable 'squishing' effect, if that makes any sense, where it feels like my forefoot is pushing into the front of the boot.

smile.gif Yeah, I'm thinking that's the right move. All I know is my Gamble's Hill Indys in an 8d fit great... slightly loose in the heel, slightly snug in the forefoot, so this is indeed my correct size in a Barrie boot.

2030 is as wide as the TruBalance. I think even a tad wider. Ryden would disagree.

So address the length, not the width, as the latter won't be your limiting factor.

Glad you love the Gamble Hill boots!

FWIW, I'm a Brannock 9D/E, and I bought the Viberg Chukkas (110 last) in an 8.  It's my first pair of Vibergs, so I'll see how they fit in a week or two.  From all of my research they should be ok with thin socks.  To be honest, I waffled between the 8 and 9, knowing the 8 might be tight and the 9 might need insoles.

For reference, I wear the following sizes in other shoes:

RW Iron Ranger - 8 with thin socks

RW Beckman - 8.5 (could probably fit an 8, if it weren't for the fully gusseted tongue)

Wolverine 1k - 8 with thin socks, 8.5 with regular socks

AE - 9D

I would think the 8 in the 110 would fit you fine and you may not even have to wear thin socks.  I wear medium weight with mine and the 110 last is forgiving of that.  I have to say...I'm a huge fan of the 110 last, it's my favorite.  I wish they made more in the 110.  Here's one of my all time faves thanks to The Bureau...

My experience with the Iron Ranger is that it is VERY narrow, whereas the Viberg 110 is pretty darn wide. Honestly, I have a hard time imagining that the same size in each will fit the same (at least with regard to width).  Needless to say, I hope I am wrong in your case!

^^I really like those boots!  What sole is that?

Do you know your brannock size?  Fingers crossed they fit!

Yeah, I've heard similar comments about IRs being narrow.  Mine feel snug in the heel and regular width in the toe.  I bought IRs in 8.5 and 8, and the 8.5 felt too roomy around the ankle.  Either way, I hope you're wrong, too!  :colgate:

Found out the other day a small local shop called Brooklyn carries 6 styles of Vibergs. I am hoping to pop in next week and get a better idea of sizing and maybe leave with something too, depending on what they have (fingers crossed for Boondockers or service boot in Icy Mocha or Gunmetal CXL haha) They were going to send me pics of the models but had some technical issues and were unable to.

Brooklyn. They do not seem to sell any footwear on the online shop though. Or even list Viberg on the site at all.

Very cool! Keep us posted on what they have and try and snap some pics.

Any have their viberg service boot resoled?  Does viberg do it?  My biggest worry is duplicating the double stitch and using the existing stitch holes.  Heard some others have ended up with single stitches when sending to other well known resoling places...

Ooo good call. Looks like they have/had Navy Latigo, Black French Calf and #8 CXL service boots.

But damn these Snuff Suede Service boots look pretty sweet. I hope I get to meet these ones in person.

Will do, I will be happy just getting the sizing down even if I don't come away with anything.
