Get Viberg to re-sole them. Might cost a couple of $$ but you'll have the boots as you want them.

Shoe trees, yes. I don't see any reason not to.

For conditioning shell cordovan service boots I'll be using Venetian shoe cream. Haven't yet felt any need to apply it to my Viberg's but I've liked it on other shell cordovan shoes & leather goods, so that's what I'll be using for them.

For buffalo rough-out I use suede spray to add a little bit of more water resistance. I don't want to wax them as I've already got other rough-out boots that I've "dubbed".

Both Horween on Viberg recommend and supply VSC. Horween even sells it on their site. I have used it with no ill effect

I believe they are horse hide, but not shell cordovan.

Cordovan is a leather made from the fibrous flat muscle (or shell) beneath the hide on the butt of the horse. Could be this is horsehide which would be the outside skin or leather of the horse.

If it's the same leather as the boots I had it's HH but not shell.  The HH Viberg uses is thicker and mellower than shell. And I am pretty sure, though others will know more, that the horse "butt" they use is a higher quality leather than the horse "strip" used by White's and others.  In any case this brown HH was a very rich color and a nicely thick leather.  Again, I've seen very few boots in it, though there are a few pairs floating around..

Yup those are horsehide and not shell.  Don't take that as a bad thing, HH is great, especially for boots, very tough.

As for the quality of it, they're great quality from the ones I've seen though I've never heard of VB using somehow superior HH vs other top makers.  But could be, they charge a large premium vs. White's.

What about the #8 horse hide that were sold by Leffot (the first one/2030)?

I thought they were described as shell but found them a little different from say the Alden #8 shell. While the Alden shell has the typical shine to it the one used for the Vibergs is rather matte/dull (like in the pic above).

2030s from recently? I would not think they'd do that last with horse hide. It may just be you are describing shell without acrylic finish on it.

Has ANYONE posted a fit pic of these Leffot boots? There should be some out there because this last run was their second run of the same boot. I've only seen one photo with the dude's legs crossed, and the leather looked way too red for my tastes; the product photos and some Tumblr shots make it look much nicer, almost like the brown cxl with a hint more red and a slight sheen.

Just an update if anyone's looking...14oz in Berlin still has 11, 12, and 13 left in this natural shell 2030 last. The last 10.5 pair might be incoming.

I'm tired of looking at boots and want to walk in them. How long till those tan horse hide numbers some out? Or anything that isn't CXL? Or.   or.   o.

Still can't believe any of these are available, in any sizes.
