The welt stitching is the stitching the holds the uppers to the midsole. On second thought though, and seeing the other loden boots, I may revert that to the usually stitching. The black against the natural welt is too high contrast.

Um, you sure? I've seen that pic where the leathers are stacked and labeled, and it shows the CXL as the thickest leather. Not sure if it was this forum or another...

I handled a lot of the CXL boots, and I have the loden green leather right in front of me. It is 2.0 mm thick, which is really thick leather. I don't have the CXL in front of me, but I remember it being distinctly less thick than this piece of leather.

Yeah, CXL usually needs lining. The loden is thick enough that it does not need/have one ... 'cept @vamp, of course

My CXL Viberg boots use pretty thick leather, and aren't lined anywhere but the toe.

There are a range of weights. I am guessing that the cxl that are used in the typical boots are towards the lower end of the range for cow sides. The loden that I have in my hand is a pretty heavyweight leather.

I'm not doubting the thickness of the loden steerhide. I was just questioning the assertion that CXL is among the thinner of leathers. From what I've seen -and owned - I disagree.
