Nice!

^ Nice. Is that the natural or grey ?

My first Vibergs came a few weeks ago too.. X post from the Boots thread.

@rnguy001 these are natural cxl, just bad lighting haha. I was just glad to get a cap toe in stitchdown and not GYW. Can't wait to see what these look like in a year or so.

Actually, a quick question for you guys if I may... for those who've had 2030 boots for awhile, does the leather at the heel soften up over time? It's pretty still granted for new boots.. I kinda feel like I'm going to have some break in time heh.

Yes they do, but because of the way Viberg boots are made (both GYW and Stitchdown) I've found that they will not soften up as quickly as some other boots.  Certainly, if you want a cushion, it might be advisable to put in an insole.

Yeah the cxl is significantly thicker than say a comparable Alden. I think it's more the way the heel cup sorta 'hugs' the foot more than anything. The footbed and everything feel fine and otherwise the fit is good.

softens up a little bit in the heel area as it breaks in. I have not found viberg insoles to mold to my feet as in my other boots. I don't think they use a cork bed underfoot so you may not get that same worn in feeling.

So, to take stock, with regard to the Millwright Boot, is the following correct?:

Definitely in, for the boot as originally described (pending confirmation of Icy Mocha CXL and brogue vs non-brogue captoe to be voted on):

@linafelt

@meso

@Bobbo316

@Steel28

@bry2000

Maybe in:

@BHK666

@NYDRH

@ShootThePier (if Natural CXL..?)

Does this look right for now?  Anyone want to switch up from "maybe" to "right on"?  Anyone want to get on board that hasn't weighed in yet?

If natural or black, definitely. If black Shinki stitch down I'll pay in full immediately.

Er... not to throw too much water on this, but "as originally described" is not going to hold, guys.

We've been through this enough to know that you give some, you take some.  And I am absolutely, absolutely NOT going to guarantee something like 1/8" lower heel.  If the definition of what is acceptable is that rigid, I'm going to save everyone a lot of disappointment.  Remember, this would still go to a vote, and unless things change drastically, this would be the vote in which the boot in the 310 last gets made, or never again is going to be considered viable for the GMTO program.  This will have been the 5th time such a boot has been brought up, and the 4th time it will have made it to vote.  If you guys can't get it going this time, after all I've told you, it will never happen.

BTW, in case you guys care, Brett has okayed a nailed down boot for us, to make things really special, should a 'Millwright" style boot go forward, and I think that for this really old school, super tough, style of boot, that that would be a great feature.

Noble effort my man, I wish I could be on-board but much like you i could only commit for my "perfect" boot and the toe cap and cxl are not to my liking.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a 'nailed down boot'? I remember seeing a tour of the steps in the boot and seeing the tacks/nails holding midsole/insole/heel etc...so i'm assuming this is beyond that, but can't figure out what.

Wondering that too -- I always thought it was just the same as stitched-down, but maybe there is something more to it..?

For those keeping track, you can add me to the "maybe in" category.  The closer the GMTO boot looks to the photo that ShootthePier posted a few pages back (I think it's page 1206), the more likely I am to participate.  Yes, that means I prefer the cap toe.  I'm not concerned about the heel height.  Of course, we still don't know what leathers are available or the cost, so I remain non-committal at this point.

post #18180 of 19616

Yes, unfortunately you would need to move me from Maybe to No.  I would possibly be interested in a different last -- not the 310 -- so pretty much a different boot.

I think folks who want this boot want just this boot with no alterations.  So I don't think it will get made.
