In other news that you guys might be interested in, we have been cleared to do a set for Styleforum for the FW/Holiday season:

1) A chelsea or side zip boot
2) A rugged boot - a service boot with 5 eyelets - yes, the 1940s service boot is apparently back.
3) Either the long awaited Echo boot, if we can figure it out in time, or another cool, more streetwear like, boot.

BOOM.

Best news I've heard in a while in this thread. Would be in for either Chelsea or #3.

For the rugged boot, from the people who brought you the Half-Japanese work shoe:

The Millwright:

310 last

Cat's Paw heel and Vibram Half sole

Lowered heel

Icy Mocha CXL (or comparable leather)

Cap toe

Stitch down, natch.

5 eyelets!

The Half Japanese shoe is such an incredible makeup that I will listen to anything you come up with (though I don't love the cap toe).

I agree..

It's hard not to keep looking down at them when I'm wearing them.

I like it all but cannot get with the 310 :(  I've tried a pair in the past and it just looks like a clown shoe unless you're wearing some repro jeans, and then I'm basically in a Halloween costume (or look like everyone in Brooklyn or Somerville, MA).

I suppose I'll get stoned for suggesting 2030? The majority here appears to really dislike it.

No capes Cat's Paws!

Cat's Paw heels wear really quickly. That's why they weren't fitted to the Hopper remake.

I think a lot of guys here like the 2030, but it doesn't quite make the cut for "rugged boot" perhaps.

The sprung toe of the 310, admittedly, is unusual, but not necessary a clown shoe.  To whit, @meso's copper task boots. Can't get much better than this:

Honestly I haven't found them to wear any more quickly than others.  Might be open to changing that though.

I hear you. I think it's all about what we agree we want from the make up. To me, all Viberg boots are more or less "rugged" because they would never really pass with a formal suit. The chunky midsole and stitch down will always keep them in the very much casual category for me, even if the 2030 can produce a "sleek" looking boot.

With that said, if you're imagining a full blown, rounded toe 40s work boot then we are just in different camps on this one. All the whining I did last round about 5 eyelets is because I LOVE how they look on a sleeker, 2030 boot. The fewer eyelets tones down the Peaky Blinders/I just jumped out of Dickens novel look, and when paired with the 2030 creates a nice blend between old-timey and more modern/fashion boots. I suppose we shall just have to vote on it!

All your other specs are fine by me - btw, though I have found cat's paw heels to wear down almost instantly. The difference between them and dainite is probably marginal though.

Maybe the 2045 last to meet in the middle somewhat between the 2030 and 310?

I've really grown to like my 2045 stitchdown Boondockers, not too sleek or too chunky.

My Cat's Paw heels wear fast. The corded heel and sole on my Context collabs wear the slowest, but seem heavier. I've never weighed either.

You gotta try the 5 eyelets on a 310. I only have one pair on the 310, so maybe the number of eyelets is not important, but the 310 is by far the most comfortable Viberg I own.
^maybe that's why the Cat's Paw heel wears so fast!

Oops, meant to quote Broark.

^^ I don't know, i just looked at the Cats Paws on my Rolling Dub Trios with about 25-30 wears and my recently reheeled Indy boots with about 10 wears and the amount of wear on each seems about the same. Also, even if a little soft, the Cats Paws will then cushion a bit for us heel strikers. Finally, reheeling is the easiest and cheaper boot repair there is, so having to reheel in two years is not so bad.

I am talking myself back into the Cats Paw... Plus, they look so cool!!

Me either but for me the commando is my favorite and most comfortable.
