So glad I forced your hand! Mine are already looking fantastic with just a few days wear - you'll see lots of light and dark tones contrasting with creases and scuffs. I find that the brown overtone softens as a lighter grey emerges. Enjoy them!

While calf is never my first choice, this guidi leather is far beyond anything I've experienced. I'm wondering why I don't get a boot in one of the options. The bummer for me is the split welt - I really can't get into it. If they do some of guidi in a flat welt service boot I'd be all over it.

The leather is great, ready to break them out tomorrow.

The question of width of 310 lasted boots has come up a few times, so took a comparison shot of the 310 in D width (brown CXL on left) vs. E width (copper task on right) in same size (10). By sole width, the E last is about .25" wider at widest point, but it really changes its look. The D width looks almost like a Redwing Beckman in the toe box, while the E width looks much chunkier.

Thanks for sharing, makes me wonder about the latest ones I purchased, they have more of the D width shape.

Just wanted to garner some interest from the Viberg boys. A good buddy of mine is selling a pair of Mahogany Shell GYW boots in size 8D on 2030. PM me for details.

Annoyingly, Viberg boots on the 310 last are often not listed with widths. It's taken Linafelt insisting there are two widths (and me initially denying it) to even figure out the D and E situation.

I put up a pic a little while back and this would make perfect sense because the difference appears to be non-coincidental.

I might. I can live with the flat welt, but not too sure about the blind eyelets.

Probably not something you "want" to do, but I'm guessing eyelets are an easily customizable change any decent cobbler could accomplish.

Just got my Camel Derby Shoes and I am very happy with them. Being a huge Viberg fan I have always wanted a pair that I can wear to work but all my other makeups so far have been boots. I bought these for smart casual wear in the office / rainy days. Being all black these seem suitable.

In terms of fit, I find the heel counters very stiff on the Derby shoes and digs into my heel a bit. After a day of wear and slightly loose lacing they have soften up and are a bit more comfortable now. The Camel leather is very cool, surprisingly waxy and very soft. Not difficult to break in at all. I also foresee the toe box collapsing after substantial wear. As you can see from the photo, they are not very black. They have a matt olive/grey tone under bright light which I personally like. If I decide I want them really black I can just apply some black shoe cream later. Also want to confirm that there are no urine smells (I am told that camel leather is tanned with urine in the far east...). These smell great.

The last - 2030 GYW and quite slim for Vibergs. They are still a substantially chunky shoe and I would never wear them with a suit. They are quite military uniform looking and would look good with army inspired clothing. The fit is the same as all my stich down Vibergs and visually the last looks very similar of not the same. I have never paid attention to the GYW versus stich down debate. To me, if a pair looks good it looks good.

Overall, I highly rate these and will likely purchase another pair of 2030 derby shoes from Viberg (N.B. I have tried on a pair of 1035 derbys and hated the last. They looked unbalanced, bulky and very strange).

So who's copping the shells today?

Not me. . .and what bugs me the most is that I am not sure why. . .something about them just doesn't feel right. Maybe the cap toe, or the blind eyelets, or combination of factors. I might be alone here, but the pictures leave me feeling a little blah.

You're not alone but as is always the case it's all relative. Shell is coveted and im sure the demand far exceeds the supply. Personally I'm not as enamored with shell as I once was and these don't interest me in the least, gyw is also a deal breaker for me. In fairness I might feel differently if I didn't already have a couple but I really think the shell hype train far exceeds it's value.
