It was very crowded in downtown because of grand prix du Canada. These oxfords are a bit too hot for summer though, I still wear them.

It was a tad snug (nothing uncomfortable) the first couple weeks but since that point have been very very comfortable. They are ice mocha cxl. I wear medium and light weight smartwool socks with them.
Ok so I don't think shell would "break in" like that. So maybe better to go with a bit more room and fill up extra space with socks/inserts.

@tifosi

I was thinking of getting the brown to replace my brown CXL Roy boots.

I was going to get them in place of a pair of Alden CXL Tankers that I have on pre-order, but oh well. I may have another shot in the future.

Well they didn't last long. I guess someone else made up my mind for me.

I was going to get them because I just got the color 8 cxl's and I loved them so much. I blinked and my size was gone! Now I can hopefully blink for just over a week and save myself $1100-1200!!

7D or E Barrie

6.5 2030. It was snug in the beginning but now, it's more comfy. I wear medium thick sock. The shoe "expanded" after some wears. I could also make do with a 7 I guess, may just have to add a thin foam insole.

Thus, depends on fit preference, down half or stay with Barrie should be a safe choice.

I have these incoming w/ the Gamble's Hill Indy Boots (cxl barrie) - thinking these are different enought to warrant keeping both? (I'm mostly a jeans + t-shirt software engineer guy).

I'm an 8.5c brannock - tried a 7.5c LWB and it was too short, own an 8c and it's just right with thin socks, a little snug when tried w/ thicker socks. Tried a barrie wingtip boot in 8d, it does seem like that's my proper barre boot size w/ normal socks. Crossing my fingers that the 7.5 2030 works out... it's more a length concern than width, that my arch will line up properly.

This will typicallyl be determined by the person buying the boot or boots

Determined by amount of use and sometimes more importantly your desire to own two things which basically could serve the same function

YMMV

I think it depends on how you plan to use them. I would be using the CXL Tankers and the CXL Vibergs the same, so I would be choosing between them. I love me some boots, but I really only need one or two strictly casual pair. I already have a shell Tanker so a pair of CXL something should be good. I guess it won't be the brown Vibergs at the moment.

I have been interested in Viberg ever since I saw a video on vimeo. Their boots appear to be really well made unlike another popular shoe manufacturer located in New England.

Oh yeah right this is the Viberg thread. I almost forgot.

I thought this writeup gave a nice perspective:

http://www.reddit.com/r/goodyearwel...rg_service_boots_brown_cxl_first_impressions/
"I asked a user here about the value of Viberg boots a few weeks ago. Specifically if the value of Viberg CXL vs Alden Shell. Before handling this pair of service boots I have received and returned 4 pairs of Alden Shell. Indys, Grant Cap Toes, J Crew LWBs, and J Crew Cap Toes. From the little experience I have gained I have no problems saying that I am happy paying more for a pair of Vibergs than Alden Shell."

Guess that's the thing though - most of my shoes/boots serve the same function at this time. Only my LWBs could be used as part of dressier attire, but that is a rare need. Guess more than function, it's aesthetic disparity. A natty cxl moc toe w/ crepe sole vs. sleek(er) a brown cxl dainite soled cap toe, they seem different enough?

I like Viberg, but isn't this poster just saying that he likes this pair of shoes that he's yet to wear over four other pairs of shoes he's never worn?
