As an Alden retailer for the past 25 years, I have never seen anything like that. I have seen some manufacturing defects and Alden has always accommodated me by replacing or issuing credit. With hand-crafted items, there is more room for these types of defects, and like every manufacturer, not every pair gets looked at and some things will slip by.

First step is to call the retailer you purchased from, as they should be able to help you as they deal directly with Alden. If that doesn't work, then call Alden directly.

I cant believe the replies here... so laid back and like "oh just get a cobbler to look at them pretty easy fix!"

I'd be proper pissed if that had happened to me with a so called "better make!" and TWICE ??!!!

Just saying and hope they look after you Rob

Exactly the same thing happened to my #8 longwings after wearing them just a few times. I bought them from Tassels in Hong Kong and e-mailed them about the problem a few weeks ago, but have not received any reply yet.

I will. Hoped to call today but my free periods today were 1 and 2. First period ends before 9, and second I spent the time talking to a cute young teacher... Lunch was a meeting and by the time I got home from the gym and picking up the kiddies, well, thats now. Will call them tomorrow and give an update. I won't even bother contacting the retailers, just go directly through Alden. I had them send me a new pair of bootlaces once that way, and they were great. I'll ask them if going to a shoe repair for $6 is fine or if they think the shoes need to go back.

Will keep y'all posted.

while there are the occasional quality slips I see on this board, I also notice a lot more supply coming out from Alden and a lot more make ups in rare shell colors in the past year. I guess getting these LWB in the rare colors and then having to fix them for $6 or so is better than waiting indefinitely for them to become available in your size.
