I'm gonna disagree with this. In my recent EG saga (still ongoing), I sent two pair of shoes back to the factory. 2 pair of shoes to the factory and back cost me over $100 (priority mail there w/ insurance and royal mail back w/ insurance). Also, with the current delays for mail entering the US, it took 2-3 weeks in transit back to the US.

Ha, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me the other day when I spotted this issue on my new longwings! But a quick search shows that this is a common problem. I suppose one might even call it an Alden signature...

ah, well I was thinking they would have returned them for free. and I wasn't aware of that delay...TM Lewin did recently send me a shirt though and it only took about a week I think, so this probably varies.

Glad it all worked out, Rob.

As for mine... the "splitting" hasn't moved a mm since I noticed it, but I have a feeling it's only a matter of time.

what??? that's a joke. a really bad one.

workmanship is so so. especially for the hassle you had.

just my two cents.

Fritz, that was my choice. For free shipping I could have sent them back to their retail locations (ShoeMart and Alden SF) but that would have added time to the process. To me the time was worth more than the $36 I paid to ship them both directly back to the factory.

If Woody had bought a pair of J&M's, this would NEVER have happened.

you're happy. that's it.

imo, it's not acceptable to be out of the shipping costs, anyway.

I guess that really sucks right?

And it should really be annoying too.

I thought I'd bump this as I got to handle my first pair of Aldens the other day, as they are extremely rare in Europe as you know.

I really could not believe the extremely poor level of finishing, horrible leather quality and then, when I looked at the price, I simply burst out laughing. The sales assistant didn't seem to amused...

What is it with the iGent love for this brand?

What are they charging for Alden's over there? And what other shoes are you comparing the leather quality to? Edward Green?

They were charging ca €700 for shell cordovan and a bit less for calf. I was even just comparing the finishing to English shoes that I have experience with Cheaney, Trickers, AS, C&J, EG, JL - and it didn't even beat one of them, not even Cheaney in my opinion.
