Plates/Dinnerware - Page 2

yeah, i think i've posted it before. but years ago when i was dumb and poor i saved up to buy my first set of riedel ... so happy. broke two the first time i washed them. didn't realize you had to lift them by the bowl ... just the weight of the water will snap the stem.

another idea for tableware: depending on which direction you want to go, you might check a restaurant supply store. years ago i picked up a full run of fiestaware and $2 to $3 a plate and we're still using them.

Fiestaware white for daily use. It's pretty much always on sale at Macy's and the like.

I'm not too worried about stemware right now. I basically just want some white plates that my food will look good on. I am an intermediate cook by most standards and a beginner by this forums standards. I will be graduating in a few months so I figured I should look into this stuff now rather than later.

If you are in school or just out of school and on a budget just go to Macy's or Target and get a box of something that looks nice. You will be tired of it in a couple of years and you will break some of it. Then you will be ready and able to buy something a little nicer. I would aim for Apilco, the white tabletop sold at William Sonoma. The stuff wears like iron and always looks classic. They have a sale on it each year before Thanksgiving.

I was in Costco the other day and they had some decent looking complete set in white for $50-60. Can't beat that with a stick.

if you can in the store, put each plate on a flat surface to make sure they don't wabble, even slightly. We have one plate that does that and it annoys the hell out of me.
