Illogical outfits

Sometimes, I like to break The Rules. Okay, often. There's something strangely attractive to me in mixing things that are not supposed to be mixed, using items that are not seasonal. I used to have a wheat linen sport coat that I enjoyed wearing in the winter over a thick sweater and with a scarf (yes, ed, a scarf).

Today, I am wearing a wool cardigan with a fresco suit. That just doesn't make any sense at all. But I like it.



Do you guys every put together some nonsensical, illogical, unseasonal outfits? Feel free to post examples or photos

So the cardigan would be appropriate with a flannel suit IYO?

I thought you were going to say that pocket square was illogical. J/K. That being said, if I didn't know fresco was a breathable warm weather wool, that outfit wouldn't appear illogical to the eye. The linens and cottons more so.

A flannel, a heavier worsted, a tweed. I don't know, something more wintery than a summer suit.

In autumn and spring, my sportcoats will occasionally be heavier than my slacks and trousers; more a quirk of my temperature levels than of my rulebreaking

Good point. I'm having trouble mixing seasonal things, whereas to my eye linen shirts for example would work fine with tweed and flannel, because of the texture, but my mind stops me from doing it.

Another example is wearing a spring scarf with a woolen flannel jacket (as I did in the Pitti challenge): it looks good to me (and the scarf is functional enough: it provides some warmth), but it feels a bit strange. Come to think of it, I also wore a linen shirt with that.

What about mixing casual and CBD ? Does this ever work or is it doomed to be a caricature of the cargo-pants-and-tie wearing Pitti pagliacci ?

I think dark denim and CBD top half works pretty well generally. I also like more casual winter outerwear on top of a CBD outfit / suit (not a short puffy vest though).

Mixing and match improves the versatility of your wardrobe. I certainly don't have clothes for every possible temperature range.

I live in southern California so the temperature change doesn't provide much room
for a "seasonal" wardrobe. I guess most items in my closet are used year round.. I have no need for tweed and heavy outerwear and I also have a hard time layering without becoming overly warm. Some see it as a perk but it's almost a curse.. I would love to live in a place where quality outerwear and layering options could be put to good use.
