Hey guys, I'm starting to look for a new watch now (hopefully my first automatic too!) and I've read almost half this thread (not even kidding, i need a watch bad.)
My price range is 500 dollars AUD, maybe 600 if the watch is spiffy enough. I want something that goes with almost any type of dress (casual, semiformal, formal, sports)
current watch is a Casio G-Shock (i hope my excuse as a student warrants a g-shock) and have quite thin wrists, although I'm pretty tall and have kinda big hands.

this is my current watch and is 38 - 40 according my ruler.

Requirements are:
- waterproof, maybe 100m? (this needs to be 100%, as I swim and almost never take my watch off during the shower, actually... i rarely take it off even if i go to bed)
- durable, see above.
- has a seconds hand
- date indicator
- would like if it had power reserve indicator, but not really that necessary.

I've researched a bit of some watch brands and narrowed it down to these;

I agree the "Water Resist" is a little unnecessary and bad English ('Water Resistant" would be better) but nonetheless a really nice Orient, I particularly like the nice baton markers and the dauphine hands and the lugs look to have a nice chamfer.

That watch is a quartz. I have a citizen like that and its nice but it will be very bulky. They run off solar power.

I think a diver would work very well for you. Seiko offers divers but there is a lot of companies that do. And you could throw on a nato strap on it to really make it great for swimming. Although if i were you id just continue wearing the gshock for swimming. They are great watches and not a joke at all, no excuse is needed. Plenty of guys with rolexs wear gshocks. Gshocks have a very big following, there is no shame in wearing one. If i were you id get a watch that is a little more professional since you already have the sports one down

It's Seiko, it's kinetic (a nice compromise between battery and auto), it's got date, seconds, power reserve, it's 100m WR, all your requirements and a moon phase to boot. And it looks classy. Check those delightful scolloped lugs. Comes with leather band but you could get a bracelet for it.

Similar to the Citizen Atessa, but not as bulky and battery-power only is the Kenneth Cole KC3500. And not really the quality of Citizen as Kenneth Cole isn't a watchmaker. But it looks nice and will be reliable.

I've got one unused I'd sell for $80. Battery may be run down - it's been in its box for several years.

I like the design, but a 50m depth wouldnt last very long for me and i'd prefer if it was automatic

Yes the srx001. On bracelet too. The Amazon review is a fair one so be aware of pros and cons. I would advise always trying on a watch before buying, avoid buying unseen online as, no matter how good a watch might look in pictures or even someone else's wrist, it may not suit you.

There are other watches in the Premier kinetic range that might be worth looking at. Or if you want to go mechanical, look elsewhere. The Seiko choices that you give are also very nice

Also would you recommend any divers? under 500 that is, i've searched for a few divers and they're quite expensive. Seiko monster, steinhart divers, a lot of companies offer divers. Nato straps would lighten it up substantially. They are made so if one spring bar breaks you wont lose the watch. and they are longer than normal straps so you can get them over wet suits. You sleep with your watch on?

Yes is that a bad thing? I guess it's just a just a bad habit, although I use it to check the time when I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes

not sure if its a bad thing but seems a little odd. why not just lay it on a night table or invest in an led clock? I have a citizen like the one you posted and i take it off during the day occasionally because its heavy. cant imagine sleeping with it on.
