1) what are some good seiko 5 models (looking for a classic white face with date ala 1950s seamaster)
2) where to get a good range of bands that will fit

See this post. In there is a link to a comprehensive list that I made: http://www.styleforum.net/t/223261/poor-mans-watch-thread/2445#post_5999742

Shite, so many choices.

Gut instinct is telling me the SNKK65. What do you guys think?

Great looking watch. I considered it, too. I wanted something with a dial that was less metallic and more white, so went with what I went with. But if you want a stainless steel dial, I have a feeling this pic might back up your gut feel:

In truth, I was after the white. Many of the images I've found have had a white dial.

Perhaps that watch wasn't standard?

You have to look at a lot of pics to be sure just how white/silver the dials are. Middle-click the link in column A for the Google Images search. The SNKE49 is one I considered, but I ultimately had to go with the SNKH47 for it's creme dial and red seconds hand. Here it is with the strap I ended up settling on.

I really liked the one you posted. But the only SNXS75 I can find have gold in them, which I don't like. I did however find a SNXS79K that looks pretty much exactly like the one in your picture:

Any clue what the difference is? And can I change the band this one (Haven't had a watch since I was 10 years old and don't have a clue...).

I do believe that's mine. It will take a leather band. It would be 20mm in width. If you don't already have a watch bracelet tool you could use a narrow jewelry or eyeglass screwdriver to depress the spring bars and change out the bracelet but it can be fiddly. If there's a watch shop in your area you might just want to by a strap there and have them change it out for you.

So far mine gains around 13 seconds a day, but at 75 bucks who's complaining?

With the weakening Yen, the Seiko "Cocktail Time" SARB065 has gone below $500 delivered. Automatic with 40 mm diameter and a see-through back. Pretty tempting...

^ I completely forgot about this watch. Probably one of my favourite Seikos.

Love the Cocktail Time.

I took advantage of the Yen's decline recently and picked up the Seiko Alpinist (SARB017).

My poor photography skills do not do justice to the deep emerald green face on this.
