J Crew has a Mougin & Piquard B-type Flieger (I think this is a B-type, I googled what that meant) for $425 that you could probably get on sale or with a discount (student, teacher, etc.) or with gift cards:

I don’t know if that 186S was a direct reply to my question, but it might as well have been; that Sea-Gull looks just about perfect for the money. Thanks!

Please help me find a durable watch that can be worn with a suit and tie for under $150

Apparently some guy in NC is selling Chinese fliegers on eBay that are reasonably good for the money. Going to go that way ($175 with a Seagull ST-25 movement).

That J Crew thing is just too pricey for what it is offering. You could get into a decent automatic for that price.

Sea-Gull? Alpha? Parnis? Seiko 5?
This has probably been discussed already but...

...what is the deal with Parnis? Who are they? How long have they been around? Some of their stuff is really quite beautiful and you can't argue about the price. I presume Chinese brand doing homages to classic designs with Sea-Gull movements... or something of the like?

People who have them - how is the quality, finishing, timekeeping?

I'm tempted to take a flyer.

I have heard good and bad regarding Parnis. They sometimes use seagull movement. The Parnis I got was too big for me though, and was louder than my Hamilton, so i sold it. Still kind of regret it though frown.gif

timekeeping was excellent for me! beautiful watch as well (blued hands and numbers)

Which ones do you have the best experience with? Durability and timekeeping wise? BTW the Sea Gull tourbullions are beautiful.

Look at these, they're automatic as well.

Laco and Stowa are the popular "authentic" choices.

I don't think Archimede has been mentioned.
