I'd get rid of the Gerbil- it takes the "Rolex homage" design too far, IMO.

I'm 44 and just started wearing reading glasses. Watch-wise, I don't buy a watch anymore unless it's very easy to read at a glance. Last time I went watch shopping I was surprised how unreadable some watches were (unless you spend a few seconds studying it). The Longines heritage diver (or whatever it's called) was perhaps the worst offender. It was like looking at one of those chrome wire wheels from an 80s Cadillac. I've started to gravitate towards pilot watches, which seem to be the best in terms of readability at a glance.

Yes you're right, shameless copy. I paid $500 for it during a holiday sale. The Rolex "version" runs about $20,000. What makes it worth 40 times more? I guess it's the right name...

The Seiko 5 sort of reminds me of the green Seiko Sumo in a good way (especially the font on the bezel and the shape of the hour markers), but I think I prefer the color of the Gervil and I like the sharpness of the bezel there and how it looks on its bracelet.

I think in this instance for me it would come down to which watch fits better or maybe if you think one of them might be able to fetch a slightly better price (or sell faster) on the secondary market

Can't get much for the Seiko $300 at best. The Gervil gets crap because it's a shameless Rolex copy. I still like it. That one could fetch 1K.

Color and styling is nice but too many numbers, what does the 10, 30, 50 all around the outside do??

I *think* that's for setting the alarm (the arrow hand).

Really like the new Vulcain Cricket - but close to $5K is a lot for them to me. Eric Wind often has some nice vintage ones under $2K though.

I just sold and mailed off (today as a matter of fact) an old Seiko Bell-Matic alarm watch and I would have loved if it had those extra 10 - 30 - 50 numbers around the dial. When I saw that Vulcain I instantly knew what those meant. I think this is an example of more text on a dial actually being pretty useful.

Learned something new. My first thought was that the arrow was a GMT hand.

Still looking for an alarm watch that can be set without taking the watch off. Don't even know if such exists
