I wasn't serious : (
Japanese pitchers are also used to pitching only once every 7 day, rather than 4 or 5 days
How do you guys feel about Arrieta wanting 7y/200+mm?
I understand he's been absolutely amazing for 2 years, but the 4 years prior to that his ERA was 5.
Hes also already 30 years old, so he contract would be for years 31-38, which is going to remind me of Pujols/Howard/ARod/Sabathia level drop offs with age.
He's only pitched over 200 innings in a year one time. Once.
I don't know how I feel about big contracts for older guys who are inevitably going to fall off sooner rather than later. From a player's perspective, it seems more than fair to award past performance with a big contract because they likely weren't paid enough during their prime. From a team perspective, obviously these guys are rarely good investments. As long as young guys are producing on smaller contracts I think the universe is balanced.
I wasn't talking specifically about Arrieta. More about big contracts for 30+ers in general.
In other news, I'm very happy to be in the US for a little vacation in which I can drink Yuengling and watch a ball game at a regular hour.
