It's not Verlander only. Fister is proving to be the real thing. Last night, after a disastrous 40 pitch first inning, Brad Penny got his act together and did well. Scherzer is more reliable than not. Last night, after a 50 minute rain delay, most people stayed in the ball park. It was worth it. There is a swagger to this team, now.

it'll come down to who ***** up least between penny and porcello down the stretch. my guess is that penny will be on the outside looking in come playoff time. just too inconsistent.

Anyone else believe Pujols should have been permitted to stomp Plush?
Future HOF vs. a journeyman who is having his first decent season. Nah, Albert shouldn't even be bothered by it. You can't make the playoffs every year.

Yeah, I see your point: let him have his tantrum and have that be the end of it. Jays are looking like they will shortly have a team strong enough to contend.

Just so we're clear Plush is Nyjer Morgan right? I was just assuming it was because of some "twitter beef" I heard about a couple of days ago.

Gotta give the AL MVP to Verlander. Guy is laughably good right now.

i don't think he pitched that great yesterday, but still had 6Ks and 0 ERs. hit 101mph a few times. figuring his next two starts are against oakland and baltimore, 25 wins seems very likely. how a pitcher with 25 wins on a 95ish win team doesn't win MVP is beyond me. that position player only for MVP talk is straight up ****.

Not to mention that he leads (and dominates) the AL in the two stats that really matter: ERA and WHIP. He has a .92 WHIP. Are you kidding me? .92?

I don't know man. They didn't give it to Pedro Martinez during his ultimate year with Boston. They didn't give it to the last 20+ game winner either.

True, but the offensive players this year aren't nearly as impressive this year as they were that year.

That said, Pedro's 2000 season was undoubtedly significantly better than Verlander's this year. I mean, 1.74 ERA. WHIP of .737...is that some kind of joke? .737? That is unheard of in modern times.

Detroit Tigers "magic number" is four. Who'd have thought? Finally, the Tigers recent history of 2nd half slump and collapse has been erased.

And no other team in that division is above 500%. worth mentioning... also they are just at 500% when playing non AL Central teams.

he also approached 300Ks. it was ridiculous, especially now knowing that it was the steroid era as well. also, pedro's ERA+, which is some weird equation that takes the league average into account, was a 291 in 2000. Verlander this year, 170.

We beat up Tampa Bay just a few days ago. The Tigers are a team that has improved during the past many weeks. We'll see what happens in the playoffs. I'd rather face the Yankees, first, rather than the Red Sox. Like hockey, the baseball playoffs are a different game.
