I would start with a briefcase full of drugs and possibly some sunscreen. Aside from that I can't think of anything else you'll need except some spending cash.

Maybe something to get autographs on. Jersey, tshirt, martial arts weapon, etc.

I may be going the weekend of March 12, although I need to clear a scheduling conflict. Let me know if you'll be there that weekend. And what kind of tips? My buddies who are organizing the trip have been going annually for years and seem to have it down to a science.

Are you going with LawyerGirlfriend?

Recs on places to stay//places to eat while over there would be great

^ seems at least like a good start. Who has a pair of nunchaku (nunchucks) signed by Bryce Harper? And it's spring training … you can't just sit around drinking beer all day! Well certainly you could … but that's where the briefcase comes in. satisfied.gif

I'm not. College buddies and their friends. I'll ask re lodgings and food, but I think it's all oretty college buddy-ish. I think the basic drill is everyone flies in Friday afternoon and dumps their stuff at a pretty generic/inexpensive hotel. Phoenix area, where I gather there are 4 or 5 teams' spring training fields within a 30 minute drive or so. Have a beer, go catch a game (with more beer), head back and have take out and beer and hit the hit tub. Catch 2-3 games Saturday (and more beer), maybe an early one Sunday before everyone flies out that evening. And of course recycling endlessly lame 25 year old jokes and stories from college.
The two friends who organize it every year are serious baseball geeks (first fantasy league I ever played in was with them, doing everything with paper, pens, and the Oakland Chronicle's daily box scores) so I'd guess there's not much fine dining, more hot dogs, nachos and beer.

LGF sitting this one out to save her babysitting chits for Memorial Day weekend when we're visiting KSilk's neck of the woods to catch the 100th running of the Indy 500.
Also taking my dad to the Final Four for his 75th birthday so it may be a pretty spoets-focused spring ...

I'm actually excited for baseball in Arizona this year. What a time to be alive.

It's an even year. I'm WAY excited. But I see the D-Backs finishing ahead of the hated Dodgers, and giving us a run for our money.

You should put that comment over in 'Dumb Threads'

Seriously though - did the Giants acquire anyone that makes a substantial change from last year?
^ not sure what you mean by "substantial" but Johnny Cueto no good?

Starlin Castro hit a monster homer today. I can't wait for the real thing to start even though I'll miss most of the season.
